Strong Performer

I like this lens a lot. It's flare control is outstanding with nice 10 a pointed sunstar affect. It's actually sharper than what Zeiss's MTF graph led me to believe. By no means should this lens be judged on its published MTF graph when comparing it to the Leica Elmarit. The Zeiss is bigger and heavier, but its not too big. For the money, you cannot go wrong with this 28mm lens for your rangefinder.

Surprisingly Good

I use Zeiss lens regularly on a Contax 645 camera and appreciate their quality and durability. The 28mm/f2.8 ZM lens was the first of the ZM range that I'd tried - and it is excellent. I'm using it on a Leica M8 - a camera I'm still getting used to. On the first outing, a walk though downtown Melbourne just after dawn when the street lights and shop windows were still on, it performed incredibly well with pin-sharp images, excellent tonal range and color rendition. I can't compare it with the mo...

Wonderful!

I use this on my Sony NEX-5 and it's amazing quality just keeps on coming. Only complaint is that you can't focus closer than about 1-1/2 ft/ 1/2 meter, but I am usually using it for things at a distance. The build quality is excellent, it's great to feel that cold heavy metal in your hand and the size is perfect for the small NEX. I also tried the 50mm but I liked the 28mm better.

Leica quality at Zeiss cost.

I use this lens on my Leica M9 for Landscape and achitecture photography. It is very sharp at all arpertures. The Zeiss 28mm f/2.8 has great ergonomics but does obstruct the viewfinder somewhat. It has a silky-smooth, zero-play focus ring that you can easily turn with your fingertip. The arperture ring can be advanced or reduced at noticiple quarter-stop intervals, allowing you to make adjustments by merely counting clicks when in dark environments.

Great Lens

Great lens, super sharp and very easy to focus. Filters are easy to add and remove. Size is a little larger than I expected on my Minolta CLE, but overall an extremely well built precision lens.

This Wide-Angle Shines on M9

After several outings with this lens, I can say that it exceeds my expecations. It's very sharp from 2.8 up through f/16 - at its best from 5.6-8. It's a bit larger than expected, though doesn't intrude on the M9 OVF too much. Focusing is smooth and easy. Color representations are accurate and I haven't experienced much lens flare.
