Great sound and it charges

I have checked out almost all the iPod/iTouch speakers on the market ever since I added the XM radio app to my iTouch. Since I was hoping to play XM fo rextended periods,I needed a speaker that would charge my second generation while it was playing. Here is a word of caution to anyone in the same situation: not all docking players will charge as they play, especially when it comes to the second generation. Before I bought the unit I actually called Yamaha and they assured me on two different occ...

What I wanted for the most part

I spent about 2 weeks in search of the right iPod speaker. I'm not an "audiophile" by any means but I wanted a rich sounding speaker dock with good bass for my bedroom and also to bring into the living room for background music when I had guests. I don't think it's too bassy, btw, as some reviewers have said - but maybe it's because I have a preference for a little more bass. The quick general fix is to set your iPod EQ to fit your mood accordingly.I also looked at the Kanto SYD 4...

Excellent sound in a minimalist package

This speaker dock does only one thing: It plays your iPod or iPhone. There's no clock, no radio, no CD slot, not even an audio-in jack. It's not cheap, either. But what it does do, it does *really* well. I tried out numerous iPod/iPhone speaker docks in the one to two hundred dollar price range, and I strongly preferred the sound of the Yamaha PDX-30 to any of the alternatives. The sound is not tinny, buzzy, or boomy, but clean and balanced. The unit sounds good at both low and high v...

NOT compatible with iPhone!

the first thing my new yamaha portable player dock pdx-30 did when i moved my iphone near it was to amplify and transmit that annoying cdma data interference sound! my sole purpose for buying this speaker system was to obtain an affordable portable speaker system (and this one is not cheap) for my iphone that filters out the data interference that pervade speakers without a filter. as far as i can tell, the only thing this system does is disable the iphone feature that prompts if you want to tur...

Disappointing Sound

I was pretty disappointed with the sound of this system. Unless your ear is level with the speakers themselves, there's virtually no treble and the mid-range is garbled. So, unless you're sitting at your desk and can aim the speakers at you, the sound is going to be sub-par. I was trying to do some work that required me to walk around the room a good bit and the sound was driving me nuts.

loud

I wrote a pretty long review and closed out the window, here's the abridged version. The major selling point for me was the fact that it's compatible with virtually every iPod/iPhone to date with no add ons.The sound quality isn't amazing, but it's very good and very loud. The Remote is nice, but if you have a large iPod it can be useless because you'd have to be close enough to see what you're selecting anyway.I really like it, but wish it weren't 200$.

Best Bang for the Buck

My Bose Soundock system died for reasons not clear to me. The Bose system is okay but is grossly overpriced at $300. I spent an inordinate amount of time looking at and listening to potential replacememts. I came on one of these at a BestBuy and a b'd to everything there. In my view there is a lot of bass produced but I think it still has a better overall response level than most and I'm pretty particular. The Soundock may seem smoother as it is all midrange but this system beats it hands d...

Beats Bose by a mile.

I read all the reviews of the black model, and there seems to be a consensus that the sound quality of this Yamaha is overly bass-heavy, so when it arrived last week I was expecting to be slightly disappointed in the sound. Far from it! Although I agree with another poster who suggested setting your iPod's EQ to the "jazz" setting for a brighter tone balance, the reality is this unit sounds exceptional right out of the box.The ease of use is typically brilliant, and the remote is a...

No iPhone 3GS Charging and Bad Remote Control

I was disappointed to try my new iPhone 3GS (several of them, actually) in this speaker, only to find it will not charge. While the speaker will still play the audio for the 3GS, it blinks red, indicating no charging. Very disappointing, considering it worked for the 3G, and some say it is working for the 4G. It also worked fine on my iPod Touch 3rd gen (64 GB). Not sure why the problem now. When it DOES work, it sounds great, and looks good in the main A/V area in my living room....

Its OK - at low volumes !

Good sound if you listen at low volumes. Craps out completely at higher/loud volumes. At low volumes Bass is good , Treble is acceptable. Not bad for the price. I wanted something economical with decent sound quality for my office (in case it decided to walk away:-) - so serves the purpose. I wasn't expecting it to compare against Bose or Harmon Kardon sounddocks (I have both) which its certainly not and so not disappointed. Have used it with an iPod, Nano, iPhone3G and now iPhone4. Works great...
