Power for multi-room setups, and real quality

I bought this receiver to power an extensive multi-room household system. It has the power to do that -- actual output at 6 ohms is 120W per channel. It can easily power several rooms at a time.Beyond high output, this receiver has surprisingly good quality, on a number of attributes:1) Sound quality is very good. I'd describe myself as semi-audiophile -- picky about hi fi reproduction, without being cultish about it. I seriously considered much higher-priced receiver...

After 1 year I'm still lovin it

Have mine hooked up to B&W 703 speakers. They shake the house! CD direct is awesome and the sound from DVD via my TV is crystal clear.Just the right knobs/controls on the front of the unit, which is nice since the remote for this unit is uughlyyy!I also own a stereo Onkyo receiver and a stereo Harmon Kardon 3390, but this blows them both very far away.Get it on sale or as an open box item like I did last year at this time of the year. I bought mine from OneCall. If y...

I have the RX-797 set up in my home and I run everything into it and through it. Bose 901s are my speakers of choice and the 797 powers them without a problem. I have at any one time two turntables, cassette deck, drum machine, cd player, two equalizers, two mixers, and the tv/dvd/cable box going into it. Like I said it powers everything just fine. I am quite pleased with its performance. I also run my MacBook White and MacBook Pro through it for parties. No problems whatsoever. Highly re...

Good solid sound for the money

Recently replaced my darling 1983 NAD 7155 receiver (I loved it) but could not justify the price or reliability issues identified with current NAD receivers. After some research, picked the YAMAHA 797 as a clean, powerful, affordable ($399) replacement. It is truly clean, powerful and colorless (good thing) and makes my BOSE 901s dance around the room again. Exceptional value.

Yamaha Sterio Rx-797 Reciever

I wanted to replace my Klipsch promedia 2.1 speakers I played off my computer. I am a big MOG Music fan and usually only stream music. Local radio and Sirius xm do not come close in sound quality.MOG Music streams at a high bit rate, so I wanted a clean powerful receiver.I matched the RX-797 with Polk Monitor 50s and the Polk PSW505 sub woofer. The RX-797 has a sub output and also allowed me to bi-wire the Polk Monitor 50s.Sounds great and got the whole set for under $1000 throu...

Died after only 8 months

I bought this unit to replace an aging Yamaha receiver that finally quit. Well, it worked great and sounded great -- for less than 8 months. Now when I turn it on, the display is extremely dim, and it turns itself off after a couple of minutes. It also now only occasionally responds to the remote control.Maybe I just got a lemon, but I am very annoyed and angry that this unit lasted less than a year.UPDATE: The repaired unit still lives after about 18 months or so. T...

Thank god for dials and inputs

After going through a very frustrating experience with a lot of other Yamaha models, the RX-797 was an answer to my prayer. With a turntable and Bose 901 speakers I needed something with a pre-amp loop/tape monitor (so I can plug in the Bose equalizer) as well as a real "phono" input. The 797 has both. In addition, it has DIALS. YES! I love dials. They're easy to use. I don't have to look for the remote, open up the user manual, or learn C++ programming in order to figure out ho...

Great Sound!

I had an Onkyo home theatre reciever for years and it sounded good but i decided to get the Yamaha stereo reciever because i really didn't care on the home theatre thing to much anymore. I got the 797 and hooked it up and i was blown away at the sound and my hearing is not that great. I have a sub woofer hooked up to it and a EQ so i can adjust the way i like it and the yamaha cd changer. The highs are clear and the midrange is not muddy like it was on the Onkyo reciever. I started hearing thing...

Clean and natural sound PLUS reliability

First let me explain that I will never buy any audio product except Yamaha and here is why: My old system was Yamaha circa 1986. I paid $9600 for it then and just now gave it away at the request of my family. It consisted of a CD, power amp, control amp, tuner, equalizer, cassette, and a pair of BSR 5-way speakers. It kicked music butt and never had a repair or failure. It pumped 500 clean watts per channel. It lives now with a friend of mine who is passionate about his audio.Th...
