From Coach to First Class

I have this RX-V3900 hooked up (via HDMI cables) to a Samsung 42" HD Plasma, Polk SurroundBar50, Polk DSW Pro 600 subwoofer, Sony BDP-BX1 Blu Ray player, Motorola cable box. It replaced an entry level Onkyo SR-506 receiver. Compared to the Onkyo 506 (75w/channel), the 3900 opens up the sound stage without the need to crank the volume or change the tonal output. Even straight out of the box, without optimizing, the sound and video delivery is outstanding. Where this receiver rea...

Very Impressed

Purchased the RX-V3900 from Crutchfield 3 weeks ago. Could not be more happy with the product or the service provided by Crutchfield. The RX-V3900 makes my speakers sing beautifully while listening to music or watching movies. Love the integrated Internet radio and Rhapsody capabilities. I highly recommend this powerful yet subtle unit to anyone in the market for an upper-mid level A/V Receiver. Thanks Yamaha! Thanks Crutchfield

Great sound and features

This was the replacement for an older Sony 555 ES receiver that had burned through it's second power supply in 2 years, so time for an upgrade. I was originally looking at the Sony ES line and actually brought a couple home that I purchased from a brick and mortar stereo store. The Sony STR-DA3400ES was weal on power and flat on sound. The STR-DA4300ES was much better on power and the sound quality is better than the 3400, but at a premium price and lack of network features it had to go back. S...

Yamaha RX-V3900

I have had the receiver for about 2 weeks and I really enjoy it. It has great sound and tons of features. I haven't got a chance to play with the HD video yet as I still need to get an HD Tv but I have done some analog video and it does a really nice job. Remotes work well also. The down side to this receiver is the manual. There are way to many omissions and poor explanations for a receiver with as many hookup and software options . Would I buy it again? IN A HEARTBEAT!

Fantastic overall product

This is an overall great audio unit. The sheer versatility and the high quality output cannot be overstated. Playing everything from Bach to the heavy base of House it preforms well. I truly began to appreciate it's quality when I purchased a pair of amazing set of sterio speakers utilizing ESL technology. An audio system is only as good as it's weakest link. For the price, this unit is a real performer.

Excellent Receiver [...]

Excellent product. Excellent sound quality. I replaced a 12 yr old Yamaha V995 with this receiver. Even after only one week the sound difference is incredible. I cannot wait for the 30 day breakin period to complete. Many advanced features for someone who is not an audiophile. May want to go with a lesser model, but if tech savvy this is a great receiver. Again, for those not tech savvy this receiver may be a bit much for you. Many features that require knowledge to understand and operat...

Great new Yamaha receiver few flaws

I purchased this unit a week after it went on sale. I had been investigating the device for some time prior to the actual release. I used this to replace a Yamahe DSP-A1 purchased about 10 years ago. I wanted to simplify my cabling by switching to an HDMI capable receiver. The availability of 4 HDMI inputs was a big selling point for me.After initial setup I put the unit through it's paces with SACD recordings of Elton John's Madman Across the Water and the Alman Brothers Eat a Peach...

some fatal flaws

I replaced the Yamaha RX-V3800 with the RX-V3900 so I could get on-screen graphics over HDMI, and because I wanted HD Radio. I did the latest (as of 12/4/2008) firmware update (1.04, I believe).Whenever this unit turns on, it sends out some handshaking signal to every HDMI source which reverts them all to their MINIMUM RESOLUTION! In my case, my Motorola Verizon FIOS box is set to 480p EVERY time I turn on my receiver. To re-set it to 1080i, I have to go through a 20+ step process...

Great in all respects!

I have had the RX-V3900 since New Year's eve.The unit replaces the RX-V3300 I had previously. The manual takes you from hookup to the automated setup (YPAO) then using the features. The auto setup found my reversed wired presence speakers before I could continue! After I fixed this the auto setup completed having set the speaker distance and EQ. Sounds very nice from the listening position I used.I really am happy with HDMI OSD and the other features the HDMI inputs g...
