RX-V765 - was worth the wait.

I had been looking at several of the Yamaha models through the spring of 2009, as well as its competitor's (Sony, Onkyo, Denon), for an upgrade of my ancient Sony receiver (one of the first Pro-logic receivers). I just installed a set of Definitive Technology Mythos speakers ordered through Amazon.com, including a power-hungry Mythos Three center channel. I wanted this receiver to be the core of my Home Theater as it's primarily use for improving my Sony Blu-ray and TiVo Series3 HD DVR experie...

1065 & 765 Feedback

I needed to replace a couple of old receivers so I found a great deal on the RX-V1065 and RX-V765 on Amazon. I ended up getting both of them for aboout what 2 V665's would have cost me a a Big Box store. I first setup my Main Theate Room with the 1065, I thought it was somewhat difficult to get everything the way I wanted it but the automatic speaker setup was slick and the sound is fantastic compared to my old Sony I had previously. The Menu system takes some getting use to but once you do i...

I had been looking this spring for an upgrade of my ancient Sony receiver. I just installed power-hungry speakers. I wanted this receiver to be the core of my Home Theater. It's primarily use is to improve my Sony Blu-ray and TiVo Series3 HD DVR experience. Sports, such a baseball is vivid with the upscale feature from 1080i to 1080p. The YDS-11SL iPod dock works well with both a 4th generation Nano and an 80G iPod Classic, including the videos. What is worth the wai...

Good upper mid-range receiver

I'm pretty happy with the receiver with one caveat: The Zone 2 option only works with an analog source. Checked the manual and this is by design. A pretty hefty design omission in my view. Also AV2 & 3 both only accept coaxial audio input. One of them with component video input would have been sufficient for most users and would have allowed room for another RCA audio + video input.

Knocked my socks off

My wife and I were blown away after listening in a showroom to an ipod on the Yamaha RX-V663 with the Yamaha adaptor. Waited for the next generation for more HDMI connectors but heard that the RX-V665 was a disappointment in sound quality so we opted for the RX-V765. No disappointment there! Had purchased a 5.1 surround sound system in 2001 but the Sony amp crapped out a few years ago. This one sounds better. The Compressed Music Enhancer feature makes an MP3 file sound incredi...

Outstanding Receiver !!!

I have been waiting for Yamaha to introduce this new receiver for some time. After much research and reviewing even the competitions down-loadable manuals via the internet and comparing all models in this price range, I finally decided to make the purchase. Lets just say the research and patients paid off, as this receiver offers more than the competition. First off - what you the consumer will get for a few extra dollars - A big Smile when you hear the discrete amp configuration do its job - It...

Sounds amazing.....but major flaws

I purchased this receiver about two weeks ago the sound is amazing, very detailed, great highs and mids but too much bass, I have the bass on the tone level set to -10 and the 160hz and 400hz on the EQ set to -10 on my mains/surrounds and back surounds, I have seven JA-Audio JA-D2's and two JA-SS10 powered subwoofers, the freq. rating on the JA-D2's are 170hz to 20khz, The RX-V765 does not have LFE level setting and when you go to speaker config.and set the crossover freq. it affects all the spea...

Even better

The yamaha RXV765 is a pretty good receiver but I just returned mine and went with the Denon AVR1910. The Audyssey MultEQ , On-screen display , Audyssey Dynamic EQ are a killer. I even think it has a little more power, low level detail is much better. I used the coupon code WS901X5750 at [...] and my discount was $181.27 so I got this shipped for $396.72!. The AVR1910 is worth looking at.

Good sound while it worked

I purchased this receiver August 2009. This unit rocks my 20 x 24 room with Polk MC80 speakers, but this month, the receiver was shutting itself off right after turning the unit on. I thought it was a speaker connection, so disconnected all cables off the unit and still same problem. Yamaha tech support told me they can't do nothing and to take it to service center, which the closest is in Baltimore, MD, 70 miles away from home, ouch! and Crutchfield won't service Yamaha. Very disappointed!
