Very, Very Good Receiver

I bought this receiver to replace my 7yr old Yamaha that didn't have HDMI, and man, is it good. Not "good for the money", just good. The sound is typical Yamaha smooth and powers my 5 inefficient NHT SuperZero 2.0s easily. They GUI is out of this world and is a breeze to set up. It is fairly light at 18ish pounds and it looks modern. The remote is also layed out cleanly and is easy to use. It passes through your HDMI signal even in standby if you so choose. X-over points are 60, 80, 90, 100, 110...

Too easy!

I just got the receiver yesterday to replace an old Sony so all the speakers were already set up. I took the receiver (and a new Panasonic BD) out of the box and slid them in the cabinet. Connected the speakers, plugged in HDMI from the BD, HDMI in from the DirevTV HD DVR, plugged in HDMI out to the tv........BINGO! After a very short setup for the BD, everything worked seemlessly. I might look at the manual (pdf) tomorrow to tweak it a bit but it was not necessary to get up and running.

Very nice Yamaha receiver

Nice, clean, and clear sound; definitely would recommend to anyone wanting a nice 5.1 unit. One suggestion though, if you do not have a TV with HDMI ability, I would suggest getting the RX-V371. On the 371 receiver, you can make all of the adjustments with the front panel display. With the 471, you can make some of the adjustments, but not all the little things that you might would like to see and change. Just a little FYI, that I did not know about.

Talk about easy. . .

I purchased this yamaha unit from BB, to replace an eight year old Dennon unit that did not have HDMI connections, for a technology update to go with my new 60" Panasonic plasma that I also purchased. My old receiver had many options however you needed to go through the manual with a fine-tooth-comb to get all the sound/speaker/distance settings just right. This Yamaha unit is all digital, providing you use HDMI cables for all of your external connections ie: DVD, set top box etc. . .and instead...

Study capabilities before you buy

This is a good qualilty receiver, but you need to be sure it will do what you want before you buy it. If you have a mixture of digital (HDMI) and analog (non HDMI) devices, you may not be able to use them as you expected to. The unit does not convert between digital and analog. If you have a turntable, wireless headphones, VCR, and HDMI devices, as I do, you will find that connecting them all through your receiver is complicated. The receiver has no phono preamp built in. The VCR can connect dir...

As expected, Great

Got this on sale and hooked it up, one minor miss of crossed wires (the unit let me know it) and ready to rock. Upgraded from an earlier Yamaha without HDMI, and as I expected, nothing but great sound from this unit. I especially like the OSD. Made setup very easy. The little cover for the front input panel is a nice touch. My old RX-V361 was my best workhorse to date. The new RX-V471BL is a winner. Beats Sony hands down. I learned from the last Yamaha that less watts equal more attention to bet...

Great Sounding Receiver !

Had a Pioneer VSX-820 for over a year. Kept messing with it all the time trying to get the right sound. I mainly use it for Stereo mode since my living room is set up kinda awkward for home theater. I have some nice tower speakers, and all I did was constantly mess with different settings with the Pioneer and could never get the right sound. Everything sounded "flat". I looked at this Yamaha RX-V471 since it has on-screen display, and HDMI switching, and a 7 band equalizer. . My pioneer did'nt h...

I absolutely love it

I have been looking for a new receiver for some time to replace my Yamaha that is approximately 12 years old. While I loved my old Yamaha, it was just outdated with no HDMI inputs and the video inputs stopped working some time ago, but it was 12 years old and I knew that I wanted to go with the same brand that gave good quality sound for so long.

Not for everyone

Christmas Eve my sister purchased this for me and we tried to connect it to my Samsung TV (2011 40" model). It did not come with an optical cable and Samsung has no audio output other than optical. We couldn't get it to work with DTV signals until after Christmas when we purchased a fiber cable. Yamaha has built a nice amp and decoder system with this unit for the price. Beware of HDMI CEC problems with these however. They say right in the manual that it only really works with other Yamaha HDMI ...
