Missing some features
This Yamaha looks good, it fits well on the shelf with my Yamaha amp, but the smart menu setup is limited, expecially compared to the toy-like Samsung system it replaced.

Great all around
Great all around product !!! The 3D and Bluray uploads quickly and flawlessly. This replaces a Samsung BD D6500 that stopped loading 3D and Blurayin about a three months...a total piece of junk....will never buy another Samsung product other that LED TV. The Yamaha app is just sweet and works great since I have all the gear in another room including a Yamaha 673 receiver. I can control everything from my iPad or iPhone. Great Blu Ray player
I got this to pair with the Yamaha RX-V673 receiver and Panasonic VT50 TV. The picture qulatiy is wonderfule and the sound output is clear and natural. Control with Apple products is a big plus.

Terrific sound quality
I am very much impressed at the warmth, clarity and crispness of the music I am now getting from the Yamaha S473. The very inexpensive previous blue ray I had just didn't have all of these necessary attributes; especially clarity. Fastest Blu Ray player I've seen so far...
This Yamaha has played everything I've thrown at it without any issue. It loads discs extremely fast compared to my previous blu ray player. Alot less of the annoying progress bars on the screen. It also powers up in a jiffy whereas my original Sony player would take at least a minute just to boot up to the point that I could open the tray. Power up time on this Yamaha is a matter of seconds.
Video quality is equal to or better than my older unit as well.

Forget the theater ads....
Ever see those movie theater chains that say, "Go big or go home..." They have you convinced that the theater experience is the only one to have.
Up until this point, I somewhat ascribed to this concept. I had no idea what a really excellent Blu Ray player would do for my system. The Yamaha BD-S473 replaced the free Blu Ray player which came with my Samsung TV.
Right off the bat, the Yamaha has controls which are easier to use. Real switches instead of the "soft" switche...
