Great Value

After only six months with a Denon AVR-689 I began having audio issues, and opted to start looking for a replacement. Crutchfield, as always, served as my starting point. I have always appreciated the breadth and depth of information on their web site as well as their knowledgeable phone support. While reviewing the receiver options available within my budget, I noted the inclusion of audio in the HDMI connection (new for 2009), and, familiar with Yamaha's reputation for quality, I chose to...

Yamaha RX-V465

I bought this receiver to turn my newly finished basement into an entertainment room. I usually buy Sony products, but I wanted to give another brand a try. I was sceptical to buy a newly released item, but with Yamaha's reputation of quality, I took the chance. The receiver provides more than enough power to deliver the sound that I expected. I am very impressed with the sound quality the receiver produces. I'm using an Energy 5.1 classic speaker package and it sounds amazing. I have a Pa...

Excellent Features, Excellent Value

After comparing this receiver with many others, many of which were more expensive, I decided to go with this one. And I couldn't be happier. It contains all of the features necessary to pull my basic a/v system together. Many of the more expensive units had great features, but because my system is pretty simple, there was no need to pay for things that were never going to be used. The Yamaha is very versatile with its hookup options and future potential, and the setup process was p...

Great Receiver!

I purchased this receiver from B&H 4 weeks ago and I love it, I wanted a home theater receiver that was able to do all the HD audio codec's such as DTS Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD, but I was on a tight Budget and I am very pleased with this RX-V465.The sound quality is really great it has a clean sound and works great with movies and games, its 5.1 but that is not an issue because there is not much out there that has 7.1 channels, even my bluray's are mostly 5.1. I use it for gaming, movies an...

HDMI-Challenged Receiver

This review is from: Yamaha RX-V465BL 525 Watt 5-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Electronics) I bought this receiver based on the reviews. There seems to be some controversy about what HDMI pass-through means, so rather than debate it, I won't use that term in this review.I bought this receiver and returned it because it is so HDMI-challenged that for my purposes, it was totally useless. I wanted to connect 4 HDMI devices to this receiver. I also wanted to output t...

very dissappointed

received it, hooked it up, way to confusing, no power! says 105 per channel, i say about 10 per channel, worst experence from yamaha ever! i hooked it up to a pair of ps10's, and a pair of infinity p162. sounded terrible, my old 25 watt x 4 channels sounded and pushed the speakers better, what a joke 105 per channel! i had a yamaha A720 intagraded amp , it was 105 per channel, all i can say is the v465 is not even close to that A720. yamaha needs to go back to there old systems.

Perfect for my Home Theater

I wanted a simple, high quality system with HDMI switching for my home theater room. The room is 14 ft x 20 ft and this receiver supplies plenty of high quality power. The HDMI switching is a necessity for family use. Set up was very straight forward and the receiver figured out where the inputs were itself. Don't buy more receiver than you need. All the extra features just create problems if you don't need them. I have a 3000 series Denon in my family room. The sound is great and it wi...

Good Receiver; Awful Manual

The basic receiver works well and pretty much satisfies my home theater needs. It has no 7.1, nor a phono preamp, both of which I don't need. The automatic set-up with the supplied mike works ok, but I like to set-up my speakers by ear; and that worked, too. Two channel stereo, with sub, is superb. But, for some reason, Dolby B II , doesn't satisfy (?); the rear image is lacking presence. ( I may have a speaker or two, out of phase.) . I miss the blue indicator light my last reciever had showing ...

I Like It Overall But....

This is a slick receiver and delivers great Yamaha quality, power and value for the money. However, the manual is extremely lacking when it comes to the sub-menus and set-up instructions in that area. They also do not explain the functions of these items at all. Extremely frustrating, especially during initial set-up. Manuals seem to be getting worse instead of better with less information instead of more. I guess they figure that people don't read them. However, once set-up this charmer i...
