OK but with very short eye relief

Close foucus is about 30cm. You can use it as a magnifying glass. The focus ring is very smooth. The metal finish is similar to that of a cameara lens.Image quality is OK. Sharp and with high contrast. No or very little CA under high contrast region. However, it is quite dim. At least not as bright as I expected. Very short eye relief. You can't see the entire field of view if you wear glasses(Even you have folded down the rubber eyeguard). I think only ~70%. For those who don't wear glasses, yo...

less known/excellent quality

I am very satisfied with my purchase. Originally I went to B&H in NYC to purchase the Vortex Optics Solo Tactical RT 8x36. Once I saw the gigantic size of the Vortex, and aware of how expensive the Leica monocular is, I asked for help from the salesperson. It did not take long for me to realize the Vixen 8x20. It is small enough to be kept inside any pocket. It is sharp and very well-built.

Bright, clear view with macro focus

Wonderful for checking something at a distance and yet, with its 20mm minimum focusing distance, can be very useful for close-up examination of details. All of this utility in a small package that will fit in a shirt pocket if necessary. If you don't have it with you, you can't use it. You'll likely have this great, small optic nearby.

Vixen 1122 8x20 Multi Monocular Review

I purchased my Vixen monocular in June 2009. Optics are excellent, as advertised, and the monocular survived an accidental total water immersion. However, you can do nearly as well for one fourth the price. Also, a monocular in this price range should have a high-quality case. That provided is a poor-quality cinch affair that is impossible to close. This is not acceptable. The monocular needs a high quality nylon case with a velcro closure.

Multiuse monocular

Wonderful monocular. The small size is an advantage. Encourages carrying it with you, so it will be there when you need it. Allows enjoyment of details in paintings and jewelry on your museums visits. Can easily read signs at the other side of the street. Will focus down to 30 cms. Well built, with a solid feeling. Clear field down to the edge.Disadvantage: Requires steady hands to avoid a shaking field of view.

Nice. Very nice.

Excellent optics. Sharp and clear and no distortion all the way to the edge.Appearance is crisp and modern. Well made. Nice solid feel to it. Smooth focusing. Small size makes it easy to carry with you. Close focus - down to 10 inches - is a plus. There two issues that may affect you.First issue: eye relief is limited at 11 mm - an issue for eyeglass wearers. 11 mm means that if your eye is further than 11 mm from the lens you won't be able see the entire image...

Some things to consider: 8x, 10x, 6x mag, Vixen.

The other reviews of this Vixen 6x16 monocular are older, and I wished to update them here. I will post this on the Vixen 4, 8 and 10 model listings, too, as I have some comparative opinions, having owned both strength binoc and monocs in the past, although I have never owned the Vixen model of those powers, so if one wishes to skip my review, do so now.I bought the Vixen 6x16 because I wanted a truly pocket-sized monocular. I saw reviews on a well-known camera seller's New York w...
