Worth the money
This review is from: Swarovski Optik EL Swarovision Binocular, 8.5x42 mm (Sports) I was unsure whether to get these or the Leica Ultravid or the Zeiss Victory counterparts. I was able to compare the Swarovski and Zeiss in a store, but the Leica was hard to find (only one desler in Boston area). It took Leica's 800 number a week to return my inquiry to their tech service person regarding what appeared to be their distinctive coatings, so I eliminated Leica based on po...

You won't believe your eyes
This review is from: Swarovski Optik EL Swarovision Binocular, 8.5x42 mm (Sports) First, The price of these may make you choke, but 5 mins in the field and you won't look back.I own an earlier version 8x32EL that I thought were close to perfect until I tried these.Clear, crisp, bright, fast, and an outstanding close focus.Second, The service Swarovski provides is second to none.I sent an old pair of 10x42SLC's in for cleaning and they came back w/ new object...

Upgrading to Swarovski binoculars
When we were first married, my wife purchased the Swift Audubon Mark II 8.5 x 44 binoculars for me, primarily for use when birding. This was over 30 years ago. These have served me well for more than 3 decades and survived some harsh abuse at times (always unintentional, of course). They were always an asset in the field, but in recent years, I came to understand that others (with very high end binoculars) could see see details that I could not. I took advantage of looking through numerous excel...

exceptional in every way
Super sharp, wide angle of view, extremely bright. 8.5x magnification is optimal for all-round birding in my opinion (10's are too narrow angle and hard to hold steady on boat or for older less steady users). The weakest point of the binoculars themselves is that there is a lot of turning of the focus wheel to do to go from infinity to close focus, so it helps to prefocus to an appropriate distance for the habitat you are in. The eyecup (rainguard) forms a nice tight seal over the eye pieces. I'...

Sharp vision
This product provides sharp vision. However, depending on how you hold the binocular, an area would be blurred. It took me a few practices to get used to the binocular.

Astonishing!!!
I have been a backyard birder for 2 years. I have also gone on several birding field trips. Needless to say, I have used three pairs of what I believed to be high quality binos. Then, I purchased the EL 8.5X42"s. "Holy Cow!!" I have owned them for three weeks now.The first time I looked through these binos I was truly astonished! The brightness, clarity of detail edge to edge and color saturation left me speechless. No kidding. The balance of these binos is so perfect that I do no...

Wow !! Super Sharp and Close Focus
These may be the most expensive binocular around but the image and ergonomics are worth it. Image is sharp edge-to-edge, clarity like a Canon L or Nikon ED lense, and can focus at objects some 6 feet away. Eye cups are easy to use, focusing wheel very precise.

Spectacular Sharpness
This binoculars present outstanding sharpness, light weight and easy handling. One small drawback is the distortion of the field - look at a distant sign with writing on it and move it from one edge of the field-of-view through the middle to the other side and you'll see how the sign and writing is distorted with apparently different magnifications. Nevertheless. I would buy it again.

Excellent definition
Took these on a trip to Maine recently. Great for identifying ducks out on the ocean as well as finding birds sitting within trees. My Swift birding binocs are almost as good if the bird is in direct sunlight (though fuzzier on edges), but the most impressive thing about the Swarovski's is the color definition and light gathering when the bird is in shadows. I love that!
