Versatility

These binocs are very nice the fit and finish of them are great. If I was making this purchase again I would upgrade to the larger Steiner binocs. However these are nice for packing because they are considerably smaller and you don't give up a ton with them. The view you see with these is amazingly clear and at the time when I purchased them I researched every brand and felt that Steiner was the way to go. Here your getting a good deal in a little package either way you go your not going to be d...

First one leaked

First one fell off my kayak. The steiner float strap made it sink proof, but the right lens fogged up. ( and it didnt get more than a foot below the surface) The gang at Adorama made good and sent me another ASAP!

not exactly waterproof

I used these to watch football at the stadium. The optics are really excellent. Focus is sharp across the entire field of view, and the coating improves contrast without being obnoxious. They're fairly light and very comfortable to hold. The objective lens caps are well designed not to snag on things. When uncapped they hang down out of the way, tethered to the center axle by short rubber straps. They're easy to remove entirely if you prefer. These aren't waterproof. When immersed in a bowl of tap...

These are a good deal !

I use these binoculars as a safety item sailing my boat in Lake Erie. The 8 X provides better magnification than the 7 X, and in 1-3 ft waves I could steadily spot far away landmarks. Athough the 30 aperture captures less light than the 50, I can see in the dark at least as well as with naked eye, possibly a little better. The weight is 1/2 that of a typical 7 X 50 ! And this is a big deal on a racing sailboat.Although the built-in compass would be useful, price goes up, weight goes up, and I c...

not really waterproof

These aren't waterproof. When immersed in a bowl of tap water, some water got in one side and fogged the prisms. I exchanged one pair, tried a replacement and saw the same result. Steiner's USA service center recommended another model, the 7x30 Commander XP which is rated waterproof to a depth of 10m, but I haven't tested them. The 8x30 Navigator optics are really excellent. Focus is sharp across the entire field of view, and the coating improves contrast without being obnoxious. They...

Sturdy, lightweight, alway clear

My wife and I cruise on a 62' ocean-going boat for most of each year. Each of us have one of these (though my model has the built in bearing indicator) and find them to be invaluable. We also have a very expensive stabilized binocular that rarely gets used. Lightweight and clear and always in focus wins the day.
