Perfect Little Audio Assistant

This is my first PCM Recorder and I found it easy to use and quite sturdy in construction. Of course I read the manual and that made it easier to understand all the features. Extremely fast USB transfer with its 4 GB of internal memory. I have not tried transfer with external micro SDHC memory card (you do not have to buy Sony memory sticks), but if you buy fast micro SDHC card, transfer should be fast. Love the T-Mark feature which you can push while recording to set marks for fast access l...

Great recording time

I bought this recorder to record outdoor nature sounds. It has an unexpectedly great frequency response. I recorded song birds, loons, mice in the woods and a rumbling train passing by, 6 miles away on a lake. The recorder could pick up sounds that my ear could barely hear. There was plenty of gain control in the manual gain control mode. I used gain settings of 2 to 4 on a scale of 0-10 to pick up quiet night time sounds in the Maine woods. The recorder's internal noise level was very low...

Can't beat it

This thing is awesome. I carry it with me all the time. As a musician, it is essential. My band mates are constantly amazed at the sound quality when I send them recordings of our rehearsals and performances. They have similar devices, but the consensus is that this is the best available anywhere near this price range. For a device that's so feature-rich, it's really easy to use. In fact, I find myself using all of the features it offers, even the pitch-shifting and time-stretching capabilities....

Faulty file splitting is a deal killer

I gave this two stars because I like the look and feel and features. Unfortunately, this does not do seamless file splits whether splitting within interal memory, across internal and external memory, or entirely within external memory. The TMark function also introduces a "pop" at the file split. I have a number of digital recorders all of which split files seamlessly. This one is going back.

Truly handy recorder

I have used for double system sound recording for video with GH1 DLSR. Perfect sound. Very light weight. Very much satisfied. The menu navigation is not easy. Some of the settings are deep inside the menu structure and hard to find. The record/standy switching is not intutive.

No multi-track feature and lacking in track options

This review is from: Sony PCM-M10/B Portable Linear PCM Recorder, 96 kHz/24-bit, 4GB Memory & USB High-Speed Port, Matt Black (Electronics) It seems that after the third incarnation of this product Sony would have listened to the grumbling about no overdubbing feature and included it in this recorder. There are some very nice features on this unit but for a traveling musician it is essential to be able to overdub, multi-track and in general be able to do more editing with the t...

On the road recorder

For it's lower price this recorder is great: the duration of the battery is incredible, is enough small to travel in my jeans poket or in the guitar case, the positioning is simple, the sound that is obtained is always much natural one, the noise is very low for a product in this price range. The detailed recordings are great if listened with ear or headphone, … but a little boomy and poor of detail if if we copy them on a CD in order to listen to HiFi or Car. Great product for a use on the road...

Sony does it right

The built-in mics don't stick out, but they sound great. It has AGC as well as a really nice limiter.Handy 2-LED meters right at the mics give a quick indication whether the audio is clipping.Looks good. Easy to navigate. Sounds excellent.

Nothing Wrong with the speaker

Excellent little recorder. I use it to record solo violin, then transfer the recordings to my computer. I use Sonar to edit the recordings,so I didn't bother to load the included software. Several reviewers commented on the weak sound volume from this unit. If they would read the comprehensive instruction booklet, they would discover as a safety precaution, the unit is shipped from the factory with the sound output set to "Headphone". Use the menu to change the sound out to "Line Out" and t...
