I use this to record lectures. It records. It plays it back. The sound isn't the greatest when listening to what was said, but if you put on headphones, that helps A LOT. If you want something small and digital that records with no bells and whistles, this is it.

To all those saying that there is not an off switch, there is. The hold button on the side acts as the power button. When there is no recording going on the and hold button is activated, the device will turn off itself and everything will be saved. If you try to do hold while recording, it will keep recording... duh. Just like an ipod's hold switch, this works very well. the reviewers that gave this recorder one star obviously didn't read the instruction manuel.

I purchased one of these and really liked it at first. It has a good design and the right features at a good price. Unfortunately it went to market untested. After you record 10 or so messages the middle of some messages drops out. If you are recording a phone number, when you play it back it sounds fine, then you record some more notes and get back to the office and play it again and you get "call mary 555(blip) 1"The middle of the recording is gone! I thought I had a bad unit so I returned it ...

I've compared the Sony ICD-B100 recorder to the Olympus VN-1800 which I bought a couple of years ago.Keep in mind this Olympus recorder is few years older than the Sony. One would expect, then, that the Sony is the superior product. This is not the case. For starters the Sony doesn't come with a shirt pocket clip like the Olympus. This means it is always falling out of my shirt pocket when I lean or bend over. The Sony doesn't have a shirt clip but comes with a *hole* for use with a lanyard or ha...

I liked this device until I discovered there is no power off feature other than removing a battery. The device is constantly "on."

I bought it in WalMart and returned it . I wonder, why there is no switcher ON/OFF? Also, eight hours are enough for records with very low quality. For good quality there are only 1hour 30 minutes. In the end, you can not put you information somewhere else (computer or other tape recorder).

This is the best recorder I have for recording EVP - not good for recording voices in large, echo-ey places, but is very easy to work with and I have had NO problems with it and it has been used and abused in all types of weather..The only time I had a hard time hearing playback was trying to listen to human voices recorded in the pool area on the Queen Mary. (Very echoey area)LaurieDirector DCPR

I notice there are several reviews complaining about the lack of an separate on/off switch on the Sony B100. (The Hold button does not serve as an on/off switch.) However, the B100 does not need an on/off switch any more than does a digital watch. My watch is a cheap Timex digital. It does exactly what an idle B100 does - it keeps track of the time, it displays the time, and it monitors function buttons. Yet it goes about three years on a coin size battery. I looked up the storage capacity of my...

I don't usually give bad reviews, but this product really deserves one. I am a reporter for a local magazine and needed a voice recorder to conduct interviews. I purchased this recorder and realized after reading and re-reading the instructions that it definitely does not have an On/Off switch. Some other reviewers have said that placing it on "Hold" will eventually turn off the screen. Well, I put it on "Hold" and left it for 24 hours. When I came back, lo and behold, it was still on. There is ...
