Tape is Dead

I have been using this unit on my Z5U for almost 2 months now and I must say that tape is dead for me. I have used it while running tape and without tape in the camera and it works flawlessly. No dropped frames or dropouts. Records 24p and 30p as well. HDV, DVCAM , and DV without a problem. I have 2 16GB 233 cards and I get about 72 minutes per card. It takes about 12 minutes to transfer the footage to my laptop in the field. The unit comes with a mounting bracket (fits on hot shoe) to use on ot...

HVR-MRC1 simplifies workflow

I bought the HVR-MRC1 for my canon Xh-A1, and it is one of the best buy I have made so far. It allows me to go tapeless which is a nice feature especially if you need to do same day edit or editing on the fly. no more tape to import into Final Cut Pro, and I take ten minutes transfer over 90 minutes tapes logging any time of the day.a 32 gb cards will give you 144 minutes of recording time, and no drop frame or lag time. I record in 60i, 30p or 24p with no problem, and editing is a breeze. I hav...

Tapless acquisition is now a reality!

I have two of these units. One came with the HVR-Z7u and the other I bought for the Sony FX1000. I was able to shoot an entire event with a 32gb CF card. It is activated automatically with the Z7U and by pressing record and does not need a tape. The HVR-MCR1 comes with a mount that I easily used for my FX1000. I only had to turn the camera on when ready I would record from the HVR-MCR1. I only had to set the camera to record externally in the menu. The footage went straight into FCP using the L...

Compact Flash recording unit

I am using this unit with both a Sony Z7U and a Z5U. So far I'm very pleased. No dropouts during recording with 233x compact flash. I recommend the unit although it does seem pricey to me in comparison to a notebook computer.Issues I've noted: 1) The synchronous record does not always seem to work. I've had to start recording manually even though the tape has started recording. 2) FCP on a Mac does not always recognize the files on the device. I also have a Firewire 800 CF reader that do...

Buy this!! You won't be sorry

I use this product on my Canon XH A1s to record straight to 16Gb CF cards. I do not record to tape. The process is so easy and foolproof and ingesting footage into FCP is fast and easy.Only negative thing is that you may have to get innovative with how you mount it to the camera. But even that isn't so bad, you just have to figure it out and buy a long enough firewire cable.

Works great with Sony Z1U

I bought this unit for my Sony Z1U after being pleased with the Sony POV camera (HXR-MC1) with Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo media for over a year. Solid State recording media are the way to go! I downloaded and read the manual thoroughly before buying the device, so there weren't very many surprises. I avoid manufacturers that don't make their manuals available before purchase. The HVR-MRC1 mounts on the hot shoe of the Z1U with an adaptor that is supplied. It needs to be powered with a separate S...

GREAT Memory Recording Unit!

I recorded a wedding using a Sony HVR-Z1U and the HVR-MRC1 when I reviewed the minidDV tape, I was horrified to see that the date and time showed on the camcorder LCD screen. Connected the MRC1 to my PC and imported the video into Vegas 11.0 ... the video was perfect (without date and time).Additionally, what was great about the MRC1 was that it took 14 minutes to import the 8.9 Gb files into Vegas .... MUCH better than playing the 1-1/2 hour miniDV tape on my camcorder into a firewire to the PC...

Great unit to get more from your FX1!!!!

By far one of the best on camera addition I have purchased. The HVR-MRC1 allows you to capture full HD quality footage directly to a stand CF card. I paired this unit with my FX1 and can't express how much it has simplified my work flow while also boosting image quality!

Transforms work from tape to mem-card

I now have two of these, one for each of my FX-1000 cameras. The first time I really wasn't sure whether to spend the bucks. Once I got it I had to work with it a bit to get it. There were some options I didn't quit understand and one of the batteries (off-brand) I used didn't seat solidly. That caused the thing to stop at odd moments because the battery would slip out of the mount, it wasn't sized just right. Once I got that figured out shooting was great and I use the Sony 570s for hours and h...
