Disappointing

I previously had the Zoom H6 which is kind of bulky and gets a lot of flac for noisy preamps (in comparision to SD mixpre and Zoom F series). I bought the Sony A10 for its portability (which is great) and thought it might supplant the H6 with advances in tech since the Zoom came out. The Sony is smaller than a cell phone, but unfortunately sounds closer to a cell phone than to a professional voice recorder. The XY mics on the Sony A10 are too small to capture much mid to low range detail and the...

The Best Non-XLR Audio Recorder Sony PCM-A10 Audio Recorder

The Best Non-XLR Audio Recorder The Sony PCM-A10 Audio Recorder Review Good: This recorder is thin, small and light. Compared to other comparable audio recorders the A10 is much more pocketable making it easier to carry and less noticeable when its in your pocket. Good: The built-in mics of the Sony PCM-A10 have adjustable positions. The mics can be placed in a XY stereo position, a straight forward position for speech and angled out for recording environmental sounds. Good: The Sony PCM-A10 als...

A Carry Everywhere Audio Recorder

As a writer, I record all of my interviews. The weight of portable recorders really adds up. This one weighs virtually nothing. It also sits on a table with a mic aimed at the the interviewer and interviewee. This makes a lot easier to edit. The downside is the internal battery is not changeable. It must be charged in advance. Always make sure it charged or it can trip you up.

Was Happy, Pooped out in 20 days

Update: this recorded is about 20 days old and the power on stopped working. The display backlight will come on but no Power On message until you plug the device in to a USB connection (assume its the power turning it on). I will have to send it back. Going from 5star to 3star.Just received a day ago and I am impressed. Menus are intuitive. Had a slight issue Bluetooth pairing to the REC-Remote app and it was me, ill learn how to read someday : ). Looking at reviews on YouTube I know I have a go...

Good Quality Internal Mics

The size is very practical and appealing. Build quality is good for size. There is a wrist strap slot, but it is too small for any strap currently available, and Sony does not make one. Useful idea, but disappointing to have to look for alternatives.

Exquisite Hardware, Exasperating Software

I'm recording live music. This is the thing you want to get when you get tired of the tinny rendition of a competitor's microphones. The mics on this thing are amazing, and the unit itself is TINY. The smartphone remote software is great, too (but I doubt Sony wrote it). The internal software is exasperating. Example: recording using MANUAL levels. Levels can only be set while recording, and even on manual, the unit will pick an auto-levels to start, regardless of your previous setting. This can...
