A great tool

Network or connectivity problems can be difficult to run down. This product takes cable problems out of the equation.

Junk cable tester. Do not buy.

The first clue is that on the back of the package there is a description for a RJ45 crimp tool not a cable tester.Had I realized how poorly made this is, I would never have bought it. The first one of these i received did not work (luckily amazon has a great return policy). The second one was almost impossible to separate the two pieces because the plastic is so poorly molded. If you only need to test a couple of cables at home, just plug them in to your computer and test them. I...

good value, but instrux are a hoot

Works fine, and you can't beat the price, but the Chinglish instructions are almost Leno quality, e.g. "Test cannot be done while RJ45's copper screezers are not totally pressed. Any disobeys may lead to a permanent damage of the end."

Network cable tester

I received this unit today and opened the package, inserted a 9 volt battery (which I had on hand as one does not come with the unit) and started testing cables. The unit seems to work as I expected. It is small and easy to carry around to test cables you make or that are in question. A good addition to any network fix it kit.

Product works!

I tested using cat5 at 4ft., 12ft., and 50ft. As far as bnc, have not tested yet. I have other means to test that, but as far as making the sure the pairs match and are connected from end to end, this tool has surpassed my expectations. Thats only based on the value for it. I wish it came with a pouch or something to keep it in, as a protection, so it is not exposed all the time to potential damage.

Life Saver! Buy your 9v battery before product arrives.

First time I've built custom cables. We wired several locations in a large complex, and this tester proved invaluable! Never gave a false indication, even when testing a line that was a couple hundred feet long with a half dozen or more connections in between.Highly recommend purchasing a 9v battery (the rectangular battery with 2 posts on top) before the product arrives. Or, include the battery in your Amazon order!

Very Good Value and Works Great

I bought this as I was joining a couple of existing CAT5 cables near a punch down panel to connect an access point to my router. Since I had to install RJ45 jacks at both ends, and plugs to join the cables together, this tester was essential for this task. It's not easy to get the cable in the plugs in the right order (they tend to move as you push them in). The main tester unit showed the numbers in the right order, but the remote indicated a couple were reversed. I switched them, and all i...

Great Bargain and works for long runs

If you want to crimp your own Ethernet cable this thing is a must. Nothing fancy, just lets you know the signal pins are setup correctly and working. Worked fine on a long run, ~100m.

Does what it says

While it could use an instruction manual that was written in English to begin with, it does as promised and is very easy to use.

Great Bargain

I bought this to test ethernet cables but it can also test token ring cables as well.First off, I'd describe it's quality is acceptable. It's pretty sturdy, but you can tell that it's economically made by the thinness of the battery compartment cover and the flimsy feel of the power switch. I'd recommend treating it with care if you would like it to last a long time.It comes in two pieces, (the main tester and the remote), so it's easy to test cables that have already bee...
