Good deal for $199
I've been using the F500BT for a few weeks after using a Nuvi 760 for years. I already upgraded to Firmware 2.0. Here is how the F500BT compares to the NuviCons:- Routing engine not as good as the Nuvi. Very prone to give U-Turns when I miss a turn even though I disabled them. Worse is that it doesn't know if the U-turn is illegal or not. Besides the U turn issue, most routes offered are not that bad in "Economical"- Touchscreen not very responsive. Not as good as the Nuv...

The potential is there - fingers crossed for FW updates
Pros:- Large LCD screen.- Decent maps and navigation.- Plays video and music files from SD and flash drives.- Relatively cheap.Cons:- Touch screen response is erratic.- Text to speech (TTS) voice quality is poor.- Voice recognition does not work particularly well.- No photo viewer. To start off, I am already running the new 2.0 FW. If you are not, make sure you update. The biggest complaint that I have is overall sluggis...

Great Multimedia Car Device
I received my AVIC F500BT yesterday, and I spent the longest 30 mins of my life waiting for the battery to charge just so I can turn it on. It is an absolutely amazing device as far as I have seen. I registered my Blackberry Curve with it and made a couple test calls. Perfect! I connected a SDHC 8gb card as well as a 2gb Usb drive to test out the Music and Video capabilites. Perfect! It actually plays much more video file formats than documented. I had converted a movie to MP4 to watch on it and...

Good product but need improvements
There is already a very good and more detailed review written here by Ming Chan, which I agree with all aspects, but would like to add some extra information not addressed. I was in the market for a product to replace my old garmin (nuvi 750) and ultimately narrowed it down to the nuvi 780 and this pioneer product (AVIC F500BT). I needed something ready to receive traffic updates (provided by MSN for both products) and blue tooth connectivity to talk hands free using my iPhone. Both products of...

Beware
BEWARE! I have been anticipating to receive this unit, as I had a Pioneer in-dash unit in my previous vehicle. When I received the unit, it was well packaged. I followed the instructions and fully charged the unit before use. I set it up the way I was suppose to. The use was easy, but the unit did not function right. There was NO voice commands. The voice was not working. When I called Pioneer to see if I was doing something wrong, they asked for Serial number and they informed me the unit was o...

Pioneer Engineers needs to pay a little more attention
Pros: Good screen size, excellent blue tooth.Cons: Inability to change 2D North Up only, Not having a split screen. This is an excellent Navigation system. I have used Garmin, Megallen, Pioneer before this one. It has lots of feature for the price. Screen size is excellent. I did not use IPOD connection. As compared to other reviewers, I had pretty good experience, one reviewer has mentioned sound quality, initially it is a little difficult to figure out how to maximz...

Amazing GPS for $200
I own several GPS systems. Garmin NUVI 660, TomTom 920, Magellan 3450, Pioneer AVIC-D3 (built in) and this. I wait til they get cheaper before I buy them.I just got this AVIC-F500 from Amazon. Its got a 5.8 inch screen, portable and as a GPS system probably better than the others. When I saw them go down to $200 I really thought that was a good deal. Even though I have an avic built in GPS in my newer car I could use this in my 20 year old car.The GPS works much faster than the ...

A portable GPS with in-dash GPS functions
Been playing with it for a week. Here are my comments:1 Navigation: Although with 07 map, I found it pretty accurate in the area I tested (Chicago). It has the lane assistance feature of little arrows. Coming turn + the turn after. Programmable nav panel (3 cells for ETA time/distance/speed + many other choices). In addition to on/offs of tollroad, highway, or other major choices of routing like other portable GPSs, it has fast, short, easy or economic, etc choices of routing I am s...

This voice-enabled device totally rocks!
This Pioneer GPS-enabled Portable Navigation Device supports it all - GPS navigation, iPod/flash drive/SD card connectivity for selecting and listening to music, and Bluetooth support for Handsfree interaction with your mobile phone!Furthermore, this device is the First of its Kind (tm) to support Conversational Voice Recognition by VoiceBox Technologies. You heard right. Conversational Voice Recognition. What that means is that you can talk to and engage in a simple dialo...

Great gadget!
Once I got it dialed in (and hacked a little) I couldn't be happier. The one catch is, you NEED the optional amplifier. I suppose it would work just using the tiny internal speaker but... get real. The ND-G500 not only integrates the media audio with your existing stereo, it also enables some of the coolest features. Phone calls and navigation directions are output through your speakers while it automatically mutes the stereo. Very slick. At less than $300.00 for the AVIC-F500BT and the ND-G...
