Pros: I have owned 6 blu-ray players before this one from brands like Sony and LG, all great players, but this one right out of the box shines quality, Only player I have seen to upscale to 12 bit deep color, loads fast, responds to menus well, quiet operation, will pass all HD audio bit stream and decodes HD audio, some people complain when there is no backlight on the remote, its nice but I'm not a remote critic, if it does its job then good enough. Works seemless with the picture on a Pioneer...

Looks great, but playback bugs are apparent

Well I must admit I was excited about Pioneers new lineup for summer 2008, I bought their new 1018 receiver which sounds fantastic with my paradigm speakers. I decided to pair my receiver with the new BDP-51 player since it matched up well in looks, quality, and video/audio specs. I must admit when placing the I AM LEGEND BD in the player I was astonished at how crisp the colors and sounds were on my new Panasonic 42" 1080 plasma. Then after placing in the TOP GUN BD and BATMAN BEGINS BD I fo...

I would buy another unit for my bedroom

No doubt this is the entry level Blu ray player from pioneer but the performance has exceed my expectation . First of all , the look of this player makes my Panasonic BD-30 looks like cheapo player .Testing a blu ray disc, the loading time is more than acceptable and comparable to Panasonic BD-30 . As for the sound and picture quality ,I much prefer the pioneer BDP-51FD compare to the Panasonic BD-30. It provide more vibrant colours , better contrast and more forceful sound . Unlike the BD-30,it ...

Love it!

A common complaint about BRD players is slow start-up time. Not having had one before, I can't say how the 51-FD compares with others, but who cares? Life may be short, but it's not that short. I bought the player for top-notch video quality and top-notch sound quality- far more important criteria in my opinion. On both accounts, it delivers. On the latest films, such as Ironman and 300, there is a surreal 3D quality and nary a hint of video noise, even when the action is fast. 7.1 sound is e...

Perfect Blu Ray Player

This is the best player I have seen yet. Fast load time. Sounds great and sets itself up for you. Be sure you have good HDMI cable to go with it. Those $10-$60 cables you get from online will not work that great with this player. It will send out DTS-MA, and dolby True HD through PCM or Bitstream. Both ways sound amazing. Need a high end HDMI cable, not lighting remoteFor me still a perfect bly ray player

amazing picture

Noticeable difference in picutre quality over regular DVD. Main complaint is that machine is quite slow to load. Also, volume needs to be turned up higher than it would be when watching TV.

Extremely indifferent and not impressed

This player is a little large but very easy to hook up, use and is fairly fast and quiet. Unfortunately that is where the praise stops. I am not very impressed with the picture quality at all. I have a 58” 1080p Panasonic that can make almost anything look great. Before this Pioneer I was using a Samsung DVD player with up-conversion. I honestly cannot see a difference between watching a regular DVD on the up-converter and watching the same movie on Blu-ray using the Pioneer. Furthermore the pic...

Blu-ray at it's best!!!

I purchased the Pioneer BDP-51FD to upgrade from a Samsung BD-P1400, which was a very good performer. I was enticed by the Wolson Dacs and the Color upconvert from 8 to 12 bit. Both features make this an exceptional unit. The picture is impeccable and the sound is like Hi End Audio! This unit upscales regular DVDs to a level beyond any other player I have seen. It was easy to upgrade to the latest firmware. You can't go wrong with this unit.

Can't Recommend

What's great about it: Picture Quality, Solid build What's not so great: Firmware upgrade, freezing on std dvds "I wish I could recommend this Blueray player, but I can't. The first machine i had stopped working after two days. The controls would not work and the DVD drawer would not open. Before it stopped working, it froze up on four of four regular dvds that i tried to play. I returned that one to Bestbuy for a no hassle exhange. The second one is better. But it s...

Good Blu Ray

What's great about it: Attractive Design, PQ, Easy to set up What's not so great: No Ethernet for FW updates! "This is my first blu ray player. I like the upconversion of my SD DVD's. Compared to my previous HD DVD player the colors and PQ are so much better. I have only watched one blu ray movie and the sound and picuture were both impressive for us. I found set up to be a breeze. I have a brand new Denon 3808 AV reciever that I connected it to via HDMI, so there wa...
