BEST DEAL OF THE NEW YEAR!!!

This player delivered came to $118.00. That is incredible to get a blu-ray of this quality for that price. THE PERSON THAT STATED THIS PLAYER DOES NOT UPCONVERT DVDS TO 1080 DID NOT HAVE THIS CONNECTED WITH AN HDMI CABLE!!! This DOES upconvert and makes DVDs look great, blu-rays are beautiful too. Que up time for blu-rays is about medium slow. faster than my Samsung, but not mu $600 Denon.Don't miss this deal!!!(hide full review)

Good player, many missed opportunities

I purchased this player some days ago, while I was upgrading my TV to HD. I chose the BDP-120 for a specific reason: region codes. The consumer-hostile atrocity that some studios force on their customers hits people outside of the US (US = region 1) especially hard. My DVD collectio (almost exclusively region 1) is large, and I live in Switzerland (= region 2). The BDP-120 comes with a code-free DVD player, but *does* enforce regions on the BD. That way, I am able to retain my investment in DVD....

what's with the first bad reviewer?

Just got this from gold box for $169.Therefore it's cheap compare to other unit of same levelI have the ps3 and this pioneer is not much slower on start up.As for menu..just press menu and easily set to 720p or 1080pand auto and HDMI or other output.Almost all setup are yes/no question type. how hard can it be?Picture and sound quality is on par with the ps3.The unit is thin compare to first gen blue ray machine and remote looks clear. The Disc tray...

Pioneer Blu-ray BDP-120FD

Knowing this product had such a low price ($148), I expected it not to be stellar, but have been over all fairly happy. It is missing auto-resume (picking up where you last left off on DVD or Blu-ray), which is a bummer as I find I used this feature a lot on my old DVD player. Also missing is the ability to upconvert standard DVDs to 720P, 1080i, or 1080P, which is a pretty significant short-coming for a Blu-ray player at any price point; the best this player will do is play DVDs at 480P.These q...

Thinly re-badged sharp at twice the price

My initial thoughts are this is a Sharp re-badge. Although it is an attractive player, build quality appears poor. The tray rattles when opened and the front panel buttons feel thin and plasticy and like they might break if used frequently. The tray is loose and can be manipulated. The front facade on the tray is very loose and actually feels like it might fall off. Once again, it is an attractive player, but the led chapter readout is pure sharp. it is a dark purple with white lettering. It say...

Worst pioneer ever bought-couldnt return fast enough

Slowest piece of crap since my old 386 computer. The only thing the supposed "quick start option" does is consume power year around as it requires a low power standy power on to "work". It takes about 15 seconds just to turn this thing off. And, if you actually want to play something on it, you better have a lot of time to kill. If you hit pause, be prepared to wait several seconds for it to actually pause the disc. If you want to skip to a different chapter you need to punch at least 6 butt...

won't interface

Just bought end of Oct. hooked it up today (Nov.13) to my home theatre system (InFocus projector) thru an HDMI 1.3a cable handshaking protocol from Pioneer unit would not recognize projector. Tried multiple configurations (no difference) Took it back and bought a Vizio VBR100. Hooked it up, recognized projector right away. No muss no fuss. Also of note: if you buy this unit be sure to check firmware version before running This unit's firmware was dated 3 months previous. NOT current at all.(hide ...

Stick with Reg. DVD

I have been dying for a Blu-Ray player so I ordered this one....it took forever for the movies to start...& some new movies would not play at all, even after downloading the new firmware.....I found the player to be very frustrating.....& the picture & sound quality were not any better than my progressive scan DVD player so I returned it to the store......(hide full review)

Great Value Blue Ray

Player takes just as long as any other blue ray to load. Lots of options and great picture for the price. Need to use hdmi connection to get best picture. Take the time to update the player and set up the options correctly.

Cheap and easy

I agree with Andrew. I purchased it on GoldBox at a great price and with my gift certificates, it was very cheap indeed. I am one of those who are too busy to read every single word in the manual so I went directly to the instructions on installing it. It was simple to read and easy to install. Took me longer to move my TV stand than hooking it up to the TV. The only drawback, it came with RCA cable but not the HDMI. When the HDMI cables are selling at $.37 cents at Amazon, why can't Pione...
