Great mid-price binoculars

These binoculars are magnesium encased and have amazing light-gathering lenses. Compared to my Nikon 10x25 Prostaff binoculars the Pentax 8x32 wins hands down, more light, more steadiness, and better ability to identify birds. They are also tough and can handle a 2 ft drop unlike the Nikons. I highly recommend these binoculars for birders and for concert goers because of the clear, light-gathering lenses. They are a terrific price, half-way between the $1,500 Zeiss and the $300 Nikons.

pretty decent all-purpose glass

Looking at birds against bright sky will show some CA, but no more than is common in mid-priced roofs. Except for that, image very satisfying...sharp, bright, mostly color neutral. I find the eye relief spec just a little optimistic, but the strange thing is that the little SP gives me just as clear a picture with glasses off and eyecups up 2 notches, as with them flush with my specs on. As mentioned elsewhere, the little nylon case is barely adequate and the eyepiece cover is best used on a lar...

Great value

Build, function and resolution are all great. At over 30' or so, just the slightest turn of the knob brings things into focus. I'm not going to take a full point for the strange eyepiece cover. Really looking forward to using them!

Best performance and value for the price

I compared these to Brunton, Leupold, Leica, Swarowski & others. The performance of these Pentax binoc's is right up there with the more expensive models. For the price, they can't be beat. Focus is smooth and quick. Clarity is great. My only gripe is the ridiculous eye-piece cover and the case. The eyepiece cover looks as if Pentax decided to make one cover to fit ALL of their binoculars. It just doesn't do the job. Also, the case is flimsy and offers minimal protection. What were the...

Excellent optics and a bargain!

I've had Leupolds, Zeiss sand Swarovskis and done my fair share of research on binos. The Pentax DCF 8x32 is a steal. They are clear, super quality and handles superb.I will say they are better than the Swarovski SLC 8x30, wich I also own, and a clear 4 star rating. They also have a quality feel the Monarchs don't have. You will have to pay another 1000-1500 USD to get a better one! and that includes the new ED version.Buy it, no buy two!!

Excellent mid-priced binocular

My Pentax DCF SP 8x32 binoculars were purchased 3 years ago for squeezing in birding while on business trips. Over time, I began to carry them in favor of my other binoculars due to their great optics, close focus (for butterflies) and refined focus. These binoculars have not been coddled, having endured punishing hikes in extremes of weather. In comparison to Zeiss Victory FL 8x42 bins, the Pentax came a tad short in brightness, but otherwise, I can detect little difference, except the extra $2...

BEST value in a birding binocular under $1200; bar none

BEST value in a birding binocular under $1200; bar noneStrong opinion, but I have owned Leica 8x42 Trinovids, Nikon 8x32 LXL Premiers, these Pentax DCF SP's (previously), Leica and Nikon 8x20's, half a dozen other low-end binocs, currently own Nikon 8x32 EDG's, and, without spending another $1000 or more, you simply cannot get a better value in a birding binocular.Great size; not too big or too smallPerfect power (8x32)Nice weight; not too heavyRubber ar...

Great set of binoculars for the money

I've owned the DCF SP 8x32's for 2 years now and I'm very happy with them. These are perfect for the casual birdwatcher (like myself) since you don't have to spend a fortune for a great quality image. I've used these all over the world and they have been great for 99% of what I've used them for.For those perfectionists out there, I have noticed that they exibit chromatic aberration in some light settings. I have to give credit to Leica as my wife's Trinovid 8x32's certainly perfor...
