See Update: Not 5 Star anymore-Avoid this product

Everyone that sees the picture this projector gives wants one. You'd expect to pay much more for this quality. The picture still looks great with the lights on and blinds open. Given the adjustability of the projector and the abilty to handle ambient light, this will work in a lot of homes other projectors might not be right for. And it looks great even on an inexpensive screen (Da-Lite HD Model B).The only negative thing is I know about right now is that with all projectors includin...

AVOID - nearly all models defective

This review is from: Panasonic PT-AX100U Home Cinema Projector (Electronics) Some of the reviewers below, after having rated this projector 5 stars, have re-written their reviews, but Amazon won't let them change the star rating. So read the reviews, not just the star ratings. For the record, the image on this projector is great. But you are almost guaranteed to end up with two problems after a few hundred hours of use. These problems are well-documented on the internet, and...

Good performance but multiple quality control issues

First off, this is only a good, but not great, projector. With the way projector prices have been falling, there are other options for less that deliver comparable performance. The Sanyo Z5, for example, costs several hundred dollars less and actually produces a sharper picture as well as including twice as many digital inputs as the Panasonic. I bought this model last September and have already had to send it in twice to get fixed. In fact, it's on its way to the repair center as I am typin...

Panasonix AX-100U sucks + no support

I had purchased this projector12 months back and am facing a problem as briefed below and possible solutions tried but the problem is still not fixed.1) The projector powers off after 30-60 seconds on starting and goes on stand by (yellow light). It then shows a red light of power off2) The projector does not start after this with the remote3) It has to be powered off from the mains and then restarted4) Earlier, this used to happen once and no...

What a picture!

This is my second projector - I used an NEC for the last four years, but that died on me recently. And, boy, am I glad it died - I am amazed by the quality of the AX100U - the pictures and colors almost jump off the screen at you. Also, the oft mentioned LDC projector 'screen door' effect is virtually non-existant - you have to stand almost next to the screen to notice it. I believe Panny used some smoothening technology to achieve it. The contrast is also truely outstanding for an LCD proj...

High quality BRIGHT picture - Low cost

I've put about 200 hours on my new AX100U so far. If you're looking for a "do-everything" home theater projector, you'll find that the Panasonic AX100U is a perfect solution. As a Home Theater professional, I've owned and installed quite a few home theater projectors over the last few years (Optoma, Infocus, Sharp, BenQ, Mitsubishi, Sony, AskProxima, etc.) but the AX100U is definitely the best all-around solution (and I chose it over the 1080p Panasonic, Optoma and Sony models). Here's why:

CHANGED MY LIFE

Did a ton of research before buying. Could not find all the features I wanted, so I waited. (Went from 52" RCA rear projection tv to 92" projector.) Glad I did, this unit does a great job in a room with ambient light. I recommend getting a light gray screen rather than white or just using the wall for improved contrast. Excellent quality, quiet, great picture. Remember, the screen is only half the experience, don't skimp on sound!

Unreliable

Knowing that the ax100 is a top rated projector, I purchased one. On the second night of use, it powered down and would no longer turn on for more than a few minutes. After a bit of research, I learned that this is a problem that many, many users have experienced - probably an iris problem. Do a search and you'll find a lot of information regarding this problem. A friend who has had this projector for a year is now experiencing the same problem. It is difficult to get a refund on a defectiv...

RELIABILITY / IRIS PROBLEM. BEWARE!!!!

STAY AWAY. Great projector until it breaks. After 600-800 hours of lamp life, most users of this product will experience a stuck iris, resulting in the projector turning itself off, forcing you to turn it back on with decreased brightness. Panasonic will not recall the item, so it needs to be sent in for repair under warranty. This is a well documented issue on forums, so do some research. I am waiting on mine to be returned from Heartland (Panasonic's repair site in Kansas). The projector pe...

Excellent - But Beware Quality Control With Iris

Excellent projector... when working. At 500 hours I had the infamous "IRIS" problem. After 2-3 min the projector would shut down. It is now at Heartland in Kansas for warranty repair. Despite this inconvenience, for the price, the performance is superb.Like: high light output (can watch during day, windows open using "DYNAMIC" mode), superb picture on 120" screen - almost looks like 1080p to my eyes, flexible placement options with lens shift & lots of zoom, nice remote, quiet, accep...
