Finally a Blu-ray player that just WORKS RIGHT!

I had put off Blu-ray until a player was finally close to what my AX2 HD DVD player was for that now deceased format and the DMP 50 is it! Right out of the box it is Profile 2.0 (just add an SD card) and is a breeze to set up and I have not had any issues with movie playback or anything else for that matter. It decodes ALL of the advance surround codecs (including DTS-MA)and can send them as bitstream or MPCM over HDMI up to 7.1, although it only has 5.1 analog outputs and that is a very small ...

OK so I am one of the many who were waiting for this player for one big reason. I have expensive audio components and didn't want to replace them just to get HDMI input for True HD and DTS Master Audio. Now that I own it I can positively confirm that this player decodes both of the Hi-Def audio formats internally and sends them to the analog outputs... and OH MY what a huge difference over AC-3 or DTS!! The most noticeable thing is the ambient sound that is lost in compression. Watched 5th Eleme...

Panasonic DMP-BD50

This unit performs as expected with one exception. The firmware will not allow selection of 24P display for HDMI playback, even though my A/V receiver and television support 24P display. Load times are a little slow, but once loaded, response for other functions are crisp. Video display for Blu-Ray is very good, upversion of standard DVD is only so, so. The Samsung BD-UP5000 does a much better job of upversion, Hi-def sound support for the Samsung however was terrible. Overall, I am pleased ...

Excellent

Easy to setup and use, it plays everything I throw at it. Load times for Blu-ray are around 10 - 15 seconds. Includes some nice audio configuration features. I'm really glad I bought this model.

I selected this blu-ray player over the competition specifically because it has built-in decoding for the latest high-definition audio formats. I continue to be happy with my ten-year-old Sony TAE-9000ES preamp, and the DMP-BD50 seemed to be the perfect way to get HD video and audio in one box. Panasonic's web site promises, "The true to the original source images are complimented by an exceptionally pure, accurate sounds achieved through Audio Re-master and integrated decoders for the lossles...

Needed a Bluray player that would process all the new audio formats internally and send them via HDMI and this Panny is doing everything beautifully. No complaints, had it now for about a month and everything is working great, no hdmi handshake issues, outstanding picture, great sound. Its fairly fast loading up and the standard definition dvds don't look bad either. This is a keeper!! Its connected to a Rotel RSP-1069 via hdmi and to a Mitsubishi 73833 TV

Terrific Piece of Equipment

This DVD player has lived up to its reviews and filled my expectations. I have now viewed almost 12 hours of movies and concerts on it and have been delighted with the visual and the audio renditions. The machine literally set itself up with little input from me, though I enjoy the challenge of a complex installation. The programming of the remote control was an added bonus. I was able to program the control of my Denon AVR and my Sony projection TV easily with the Panasonic remote control. ...

This is my first Blu-ray player and I must say I'm glad I waited for the BD-50. Finally a complete Blu-ray player (profile 2.0). The picture quality seems to be on par with my HD-DVD Toshiba XA2. According to Home Theater Magazine this player comes very close to having the same quality picture as a well known $2000 Blu-ray player. The HDMI input is a little on the bright side, but I adjusted the contrast on my XBR4 a few notches down and it made it just right. I tried many of the known diffi...
