Terrible experience

We purchased from Amazon but did not check within the 30 day window. The speakers did not work after hooking up to the reciever and then it shut down and began smoking! We must pay to ship to an Onkyo authorized repair center. Terrible.

Was an unexpected purchase but worth it!

I had a NR-TX807 which was just a couple of years old and then I went out and upgraded to 3D television and did not realize the need to upgrade the receiver as well. If I didn't have a friend who had told me to let him know when I was ready to sell my 807 receiver I may not have been so quick to make the jump. However the salesman had told me that there were some nice improvements on the 809 over the 807 and he was definitely right. Onkyo makes a great receiver and when I needed to set it up, bo...

Easy Setup, Great Sound

Very easy to setup, sound fields and sound production for 5.1 were great. An improvement over my Integra DTR-7.2. Great picture and even sound production in very big angular room.

Great Receiver [...]

The receiver is packed with features. Especially like the internet radio. All adjustments are shown on TV allowing you to hide the receiver because you do not need to see the display. Has 3 zones (need amp for the 3rd zone) and whole house feature to play the same output to all three zones (without delay between zones).

Just Buy It Already!

I upgraded this receiver from my previous Onkyo TX-SR876 because I have a 5.1 home theater set-up with a 3-D HDTV and that receiver couldn't pass-thru the 3-D signal to my TV. I have tested everything this receiver has to offer except the ISF calibration. I have been using this receiver for the last 3 weeks and I have NO complaints about it. The set-up was straight forward but I would recommend going to the Audyssey website before audio calibration. The Audyssey website gives you better info...

Great receiver, until it broke just after the warranty expired

I've always bought Onkyo products in the past and been extremely happy with them - then Onkyo moved into the world of HDMI and boy have they turned into junk boxes. So I have this Onkyo receiver, which cost around $900, and it was wonderful - for 2 years and 2 months. Then you want to guess what happened? Well I turned on my theater room and couldn't hear anything. I could see my screen, but I couldn't hear anything. That's right, I'm the proud pappa of an Onkyo NO SOUND receiver!Thi...

Have fire extinguisher near by!

I have only had the unit up and running a few days, but I miss it dearly! It was easy to setup and the sound quality was night and day compared to my old Pioneer VSX-1014 (I love my Pioneer too, but no HDMI inputs). 2/11 - I had just finished updating the firmware via USB and I was on my way over to the receiver when I heard sizzling, and a loud pop from the receiver! The whole inside of the receiver started to glow bright orange and then a big puff of electrical smoke showed it self. The unit w...

I bought this from Amazon.Started having HDMI issues about a year ago, but thought it was my cable box since swapping it fixed the issues for a while.Onkyo admitted their receivers have HDMI and sound issues (if you have one, see http://www.onkyousa.com/Support/service_info.php# - loss of audio/network connection customer care program), I checked my serial # and it was one of the affected units. They shipped packing materials and a shipping label to me. I shipped this 40lb receiver to Chicago ...

Delay on Zone 1 on whole house / NET

Mostly happy with product, but, but....In review (By Josahua):"Has 3 zones (need amp for the 3rd zone) and whole house feature to play the same output to all three zones (without delay between zones)."This is not true for "NET"-source, zone 1 is far behing on zone 2/3 sound (so much that I cannot use "Whole House Mode" with "NET" source. FM-Turner and analoque sources don't have same issue. Some improvement can be seen with "Direct"-mode on zone 1 (main speakers)

excellent

Works great with my polk audio speakers in my home theatre. The menu setup and option were easy to use by viewing them directly on my 65 LED TV. Using my IPhone I installed the free APP and can control the receiver with it.
