Excellent receiver, affordable price

My setup: * Receiver: Onkyo TX-SR674. * 5.1 Speaker setup - Polk Audio: Monitor 70 fronts + Monitor 40 Surrounds + CS2 Center + PSW12 Subwoofer.I am thrilled with my new Onkyo TX-SR674. The feature that I love best is the single HDMI out to my TV. I can connect any component to the receiver and all I need is a single HDMI cable to my TV from the receiver - it doesn't matter if your video sources are a VCR, DVD Player, Cable, etc., all get routed through the single HDMI out to y...

A wonderful receiver

I really like this receiver. Even with my cheap $50 speakers, the sound is crisp and clear . This receiver has excellent speaker separation. The HDMI functions well; however, the skin tones have too much saturation going through the receiver. I adjusted the red tone down and now the picture on my 37in HD LCD tv looks great. My equipment hook-up was very easy too. The remote is great; it only took about 5 minutes to program all my component's codes. Everything works as advertised. I have my comp...

Onkyo TX-SR674

An outstanding receiver. I would give it five stars were it not for the 'analog connections only' limitation in Zone 2, as mentioned by a previous reviewer. I ran HDMI and RCA cables for components that I want to hear in Zone 2 so I have to go into the setup menu and manually reassign the input to component if I want Zone 2 sound. It's not a big issue for me personally though b/c Zone 2 in my house is the back deck and the speakers are used primarily for music so the occasional switch isn't a bi...

Pretty Solid, With Quirks

All told this is a pretty solid piece of equipment. As the other reviewer mentioned, it does keep a video feed going from whatever the last video source was if you switch to an audio input - my old receiver did this too, and its actually a nice feature IMO. Your opinion, of course, may vary.Anyway, this is a respectable unit. Decent setup, nice menus, does everything it claims to do. Upconversion works very well. At one point though it almost went back in the box; you see, the two t...

A reasonable price for a truely fine receiver with HDMI up-converting.

I'm running my Toshiba DVD into it with component video and coax audio, my old RCA VCR with video and stereo rca jacks and my Dish HD DVR with HDMI. Video output is the single HDMI to a Panasonic 1080i plasma. Picture quality is great. Sound is very good, even with my old Bose 301's and cheap kenwood suround speaker. The self adjust on the sound levels never worked, but manual adjustments went fine. The unit does run quite hot. I adjusted my home entertainment cabinet to give more air spac...

Great Receiver but ZONE 2 feature is flawed

Okay this is a great receiver for most of the advertised features. I am particularly pleased with the fact that non-HDMI sources OUTPUT from the HDMI output. Why is this important? So that using a non-analog device, such as the Onkyo DS-A2 iPOD adapter will display on your HDTV (you only need to plug in the HDMI output from your receiver into the HDTV to receive all video feeds whether composite, component or HDMI). The quality of sound and video has been very good for the short time th...

So Close...no cigar

OK, lets start with the good things. - Good looking receiver- Great sounding receiver- HDMI switching (works great)- deinterlacing if analog video signals to a 480p signal over HDMI- on screen setup over HDMI- Loudspeaker setup + microphone (works great for me)OK, here are the reasons I gave this only 3 stars...(and I'm keeping the unit)- Even though HDMI 1.1 supports 8 discrete audio channels...this receiver (674) will NOT handle 7.1 PCM over HDMI. (p...

Very Good but not Great

I bought this at Circuit City for $699, but it was worth it due to the financing offer along with the other equipment I bought along with it (Sony 46" XBR2 LCD TV, Harmony 880 remote, and some other miscellaneous Xmas gifts). You can definitely get it for much less on Amazon. The performance is quite good. The sound is excellent. The automated speaker sound set up is simple and easy. The video processing is a little difficult to set up, but works well once it is complete. The mai...

Best Reciever Ever

I love the fact that I'm able to connect my HDMI inputs, Component inputs, S-Video Inputs and only have one HDMI cable output to my TV. Set up was a breeze, especially when using the supplied mic that actually calibrates your speaker/subwoofer settings. The sound is amazing, I would recommend this product to anyone who is interested in a receiver with HDMI inputs/outputs.

Major HDCP Issues

The sound is great for a receiver in this price range, but I haven't had any luck using the HDMI inputs. I have encountered HDCP copy protection issues with every source device I've tried so far. I've had no luck with my Denon DVD-1930CI, or Sony DVP-NS75H. The audio is fine, but the video is blocked. I've used multiple HDMI cables that work when connected directly to the TV, but still no luck in running them through the receiver.I'll still give it 3 stars for sound quality and overall e...
