Great Value! A steal!

7.1 for $300.00! After looking at offerings from Denon and Yamaha I decided on the Onkyo. This has to be the best value in an AV receiver in the market right now. It is very easy to set up and fantastic sound for both, music and movies. The TX-SR503 has pretty much all the processing capabilities out there, short of THX. The included DSP modes are plenty and do not impart a lot of the gimmicky echoes and reverb or over equalization some other brands use in their DSP modes. Don't worry abou...

Great Product and Excellent Value

Excellent sound and very easy set up. Lots of connections (input and output) made it possible to link together several components easily. Used my own speakers, which have never sounded so good! The Onkyo fills my family room with full, high-quality sound. No distortion noticeable, even at rather high volumes. The remote was easily programmable to operate my TV, CD changer, DVD player, and VCR in addition to the amplifier.

Great performance for a great price!!!

This thing is built like a tank and sounds like a dream. While I was doing my "homework" to build a new home theatre system, the Onkyo TX-SR503 quickly became the frontrunner. I've got my HD cable box and Samsung DVD running through it and it makes the video look REALLY good... it CAN handle a lot of digital vid info as well as the sound.Speaking of sound, it makes my Polk Audio speakers sound GREAT!! (CS1 center, Monitor 30 (frt. L & R), r15 (rear) and PSW10 sub) This was a joy right ou...

Exceptional Value!!

This wasn't my first choice, but boy am I glad went I with my second choice instead! I made the mistake of going to a national chain City to buy a Sony receiver (STR-DE598). The sales rep didn't really know anything about it, but said he though it was a good buy - right!! I got it home and fiddled with it for three hours...got frustrated, took it back and signed on to crutchfield.com that night and bought this Onkyo instead. It's got great sound, plenty of options, looks good...and talk about e...

Onkyo TX-SR503

The Onkyo TX-SR503 is probably the best receiver for the value. I had been shopping around for a while before I decided on this one and I would have to say that the right choice was made. The sound is great, setup was fairly simple and the value was unmatched when compared to other receivers with comparable options.

ONKYO WELL DONE!

I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR AN EXCELLENT HOME THEATRE RECEIVER FOR QUITE SOMETIME NOW AND I'VE RECENTLY DECIDED TO GO WITH ONKYO. I'M AN ELECTRONICS JUNKY SO MY DECISION TOOK AWHILE. COMPARING ONKYO TO THE LIKES OF DENON, HARMAN KARDON & YAMAHA WHICH ALL ARE HIGH CURRENT RECEIVERS WHICH IS CRITICAL FOR A TRUE HOME THEATRE. I THINK I MADE A VERY GOOD DECISION WITH THE ONKYO. IT WAS HARD TO CHOOSE JUST ONE OVER THE OTHER BUT AFFORDABILITY, RELIABILITY AND DURABILITY WERE MY DECIDING FACTORS. ONE FEATU...

Insufficient for Home Theater

I bought an Onkyo TXSR503 and found out that it was not sufficient to run my 4 built-in front and rear surround speakers, center speaker, and powered subwoofer. The manual states that the "American Model" cannot accomodate any speaker systems less than 6 ohms. If you use speakers of a lower impedance and use the receiver at higher volume levels, the built-in protection circuit may be activated. When I had everything connected, my receiver kept cutting off just like it states and I did not have ...

Outstanding receiver

After reading the reviews here on Crutchfield, and researching many other sites and many other brands, I chose this receiver. I have owned Sony receivers and my first instinct was to look at Sony's again. After speaking with local retailers and much online research, I threw Sony out. Denon and Onkyo kept coming up in all the conversations, reviews, blogs, etc... I compared the two, even side by side, and chose the Onkyo. After receiving it from Crutchfield in perfect condition, I found the manu...

Excellent value

This nifty receiver delivers the goods, all things considered. For $300, you get 7.1 sound, pretty good ergonomics, decent construction, and a reasonable amount of power. It is not a direct competitor to $1000 A/V units, nor was it designed to be. Are there things that could be better? Sure. I'd like to see gold-plated connections, and the menu selection of surround sound modes is a little different than with other receivers I've used over the years. Occasionally I'll hear popping sounds w...

Do you like clean, clear sound?

I just bought this Onkyo receiver after my 20 year old Luxman receiver died. I was considering a couple other receivers from Denon and Pioneer, but the price for this one was too good to resist. The setup was a bit complicated, but the manual is clear and thorough. The number of features and listening options is amazing. I'm playing it through a pair of Infinity 160 speakers, and they have never sounded better. The receiver's only weaknesses are the sort of features you would find on much more e...
