mixed speaker impedance 4 and 8 ohms

i have had this receiver about 90 days and so far it has functioned well. i run the amp at 4 ohm setting because my fronts are phasetech pc 9.1. i play at loud vol and the receiver does not cut out. the yamaha rx-3000 i had before this would shut off at high vol settings plus the fm sensitivity was poor. the onkyo got 6 fm stations compared to 1 for the other amp with the samr antenna. i have not scratched the surface of the onkyo features but all has went well. i love t...

WHOA!!!

I've used Yamaha exclusively for years. When I came into the market again, I of course looked at Yamaha. Then I saw the onkyo. I went to my local home theater store, where I'd purchased before, & got a chance to see & hear this monster. I purchased this unit from Crutchfield for two reasons. I got lied to by the other guy & Dolly at Crutchfield not only knew her stuff, she also understood immediately my concerns about going away from Yamaha. This receiver is everything they...

Onkyo TX-NR5008 is the best!!

This review is from: Onkyo TX-NR5008 9.2-Channel Network Home Theater Receiver (Electronics) Far beyond my expectations, this receiver really makes me grin every time I use it. I just wish Amazon would be a little more competitive with Newegg.com's Saturday/Sunday price ($1,599.00)

Mixed bag

The good: Great manual, user design, remote. Plenty of power (running Bridged) and flexible configurations; Audyssey Multi-32 XT EQ; looks nice. The bad: Corrupts component video signals even with all processing disabled; 'direct' sound lacks body (listening on B&W 801s). Bought this to upgrade from a 2002-model Denon 2802 (90W). The Denon had a warmer, more full bodied sound in its 'Direct' (no equalization) configuration. The Onkyo sounds somewhat lifeless in that configurat...

Just to help clear something up...

This is a 9.2 channel receiver, yes. However, many "complaints" are about not being able to create a true 9-speaker sound array. Hope this helps:The absolute MAX number of speakers in one room is 7.2, that is 7 speakers and 2 sub-woofers. Any time you may see an amplifier with more, like this one, will be followed by the term "multi-zone.""Multi-zone" means that the receiver can control seperate rooms, or zones, in a monagerie of ways, totalling 9.2. Some common uses are:...

Great Receiver when it isn't in the repair shop

Great features at a premium price, but cheaper than other brands for what you get. I was able to start with my 5.1 speaker configuration and grow to a 7.2 and then to a 9.2 and this receiver delivers loads of power to all channels. My only gripe was the loud relay switch Onkyo opted for the makes a very noticeable CLICK whenever the sound format changed from Stereo to surround sound often found on network TV when commercials come up. In a typical commercial break you hear it 3-5 tim...

I have the TX-NR5008 but this pertains to the models I have listed in the title. First, this is a nce unit, doing everything you can imagine and doing it well. You get a lot of bang for the buck, especially since they have a newer flagship model. When I bought the 5008, it was the flagship. Rather than going into all the good, there is something important to be aware of. After exactly two years of ownership, my reciever lost all audio. Searching the net, I found that this is something that is no...

exceptional over previous model

The new flagship unit is more refined and user friendly with many of the rough edges ironed out. The osd is a big improvement you can make adjustments on the fly with (on screen display) for audio and video. The older version 5007 for me was freezing up not letting speaker output and you were forced to do resets which involved unplugging unit and thus loose all your previous settings. Not good. This unit is heading in the right direction but I feel still has some catch up to do with how fast thi...

9.2, THX, 3D, Internet connected. Sweet package at a great price

This is the 3rd Onkyo receiver I have purchased. The other 2 didn't die, they just became outdated. I was originally looking for a couple models below this level, but the Amazon virtually half-price made this lower priced than than those, and an absolute bargain. My only negative is that using Zone 2 or Zone 3 doesn't allow you to use the full 9.2 channels, but being able to pump out internet or computer tunes to the pool for the kids while still being able to watch Bluray movies in 7.2 THX defi...

State of the art receiver

Excellent receiver, set up is a breeze, the performance is unparallel. After doing some research for the best receiver out there it all came down to this baby. And trust me this is the best value right now. It's amazing at how quickly it recognized everything I plugged thru HDMI. The internet radio gives you a lot of different stations to choose from. I can't keep describing all the features because I'll never finish this review. This is a replacement for another onkyo receiver the TX-NR905, I'm...
