Very pleased

I purchased a TX-NR609 a week ago to replace a 15 year old (but very reliable) Yamaha receiver. It is remarkable how the technology has changed. I have been looking at new receivers for over a year, and was waiting for the right combination of price and features. This new Onkyo fits those criteria quite nicely. The Audyssey speaker calibration was simple and effective. It sounds so good it's as if I bought new speakers. My old receiver didn't decode DTS digital, so listening to the Eagles Farewe...

Almost exactly what I am looking for

Love this receiver, sounds great, video works well with everything hooked through it. I can go on and on what I like about the Onkyo, but that would be restating what you probably already know and have read about it, that it is pretty awesome. It is not without its faults however, these are things that trouble me down the road, and things I need to keep tabs on. For one, it gets very hot when running video, so hot that the glass that is about 3 inches above it feels extremely warm to the touch. ...

Outstanding!

I am blown away with this receiver! I owned an Onkyo HTIB prior to this and after 6 years of loyal service, decided to retire it to upgrade to this networked amplifier that supported 3D via a single HDMI. The sound is deep and impressive, the video output upconverting my 720p DVD player is excellent and the coolest part is the ability to play Pandora via the internet radio. Connections are straightforward, there is a bit of learning curve with the unit given it...

Great mid-range AV Receiver with more than most others

I upgraded from an old non-HDMI Yamaha HTR-5850.I looked at the following:- Onkyo TX-SR608- Denon AVR-1911- Pioneer VSX-1020-K- Pioneer VSX-1021-K- Yamaha RX-V667- A few others- Onkyo HT-RC360 is also a very similar one that merits comparison, esp. with the price.First impression:- Box was well packaged.- Easy to connect right out of the box. I have a simple 5.1 set up, but even the 7.2 seems easy enough. Plenty of space between things, except the power cord ...

Working life of 609 < 2 years, HDMI board failure assured

I did extensive research before buying my TX NR609 in late 2011. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but Onkyo had a great reputation and I convinced myself that this would be the centerpiece of my entertainment system for many years. Now my HDMI video won't work, only the audio is output. I quickly found out the issue after doing some research on their own support forum, here, and around the web. I've been Punk'd and wasted a good chunk of change on a known faulty HDMI board. It won't ...

Onkyo TX-NR609 is a Masterpiece of a Mid-range Receiver

I wanted to upgrade my receiver from a non hdmi Yamaha HTR-5890 to hdmi one. Researched a lot of receivers and bought a Denon AVR990 7.1-Channel Multi-Zone Home Theater Receiver with Networking Capability and 1080p HDMI Connectivity. Then I found out this new receiver Onkyo is releasing and was due to be out pretty soon. I liked the Denon's features, especially the built in HD Radio which I miss in this Onkyo. Anyway, I still love the new Onkyo TX-NR609.The OSD GUI is fabulous and very ple...

Worked for 4 Months - HDMI Failure

I purchased an Okyno TX-NR609 from Amazon in early December based on the positive reviews received here as well as multiple other AV sites.I used it as the center of my media/entertainment hub -- replacing a several year old Okyno that only supported component video out.It worked well until about a week ago when I apparently suffered the same fate that many others have suffered with this unit -- a failure of the HDMI board -- rendering it effectively useless as a device to support the switching ...

Love it, love it, love it!

We just got our TX-NR609 yesterday. The sturdiness of the product harkens to decades ago, when you could still pick up a stereo amplifier with a real metal case and it weighed something. At 32 lbs. shipping weight, it surprised us in a good way.We purchased the unit as a replacement for an entry level Dolby Digital/DTS HD 5.1/6.1 receiver, primarily for the ability to use HDMI connectivity throughout the home theater system, for uncompressed audio signals and ease of signal switching. Also, T...

Onkyo maintains awesomeness with the TX-NR609

If you're looking for the one sentence review: this receiver is absolutely amazing. Now I'll tell you why:HDMI OSD: I use a projector, which leaves the receiver sitting about 10 feet behind me. OSD lets me see what the volume level is without turning around and squinting. Furthermore, browsing the menus on the receiver is so much more pleasant with the OSD.Network connectivity: I thought this would be a gimmick, but it is NOT. One thing that is odd to me is that it's only wired internet. Bu...

Prone to Problems

I have had my receiver for 4 months now and have already had two major issues. The first is that it would not transmit video to my TV, only audio. Now there is a popping noise coming from the front right channel. After switching the channels around, changing wires, and hooking up different speakers it still does it. After reading reviews and forums I have learned that this is a common problem with Onkyo. Of course Onkyo's customer support is no help, as all they do is explain how to reset the...
