I'm finally satisfied

I started with a lesser ONKYO that went on the fritz. I replaced with a Crutchfield recommended Denon that didn't sound as good and took an engineer to figure out the instructions. I replaced with the ONKYO TXNR709 that has great sound, reasonable instructions, and has PASS THROUGH HDMI, very important if your mate isn't into sound and remote controls. The TV can be viewed without turning on the ONKYO receiver. Also has a phono pre-amp for my turntable. It's perfect! I'm happy.

In years past, many Onkyo owners (myself included) tended to migrate to either the value-curve melting entry-level 6-series or the full chassis muscle of the 8 series and up. The 7 series has long been an "in-between" model in Onkyo's lineup. It was omitted in 2006 altogether and seems to be an easy step to overlook as prices naturally descend above and below it. To this extent, the 70x was the proverbial Jan Brady - not quite the brawny muscle of the 80x or the entry-level, high bang for your b...

I hesitate to write this review because I like Onkyo - I bought this receiver (actually two of them - see below) to replace other Onkyo receivers. However, I wish I had listened to some of the other reviewers on here because this turned into a real headache for me. If you read through the reviews here and on other sites, you will see tales of units having to be returned because of video and other issues. I had my first unit for just over 30 days - just outside the Amazon return period - when ...

It's hard to keep reviews like this short, because there are SO many features on this thing. I'll go over some of the things that stand out to me.The internet radio is one of our favorite functions, you can even browse THOUSANDS of internet radio stations and it's seemlessly intergrated in the receiver. We began listening to a radio station in Hong Kong! Pandora sounds great, so does last FM. The music title/artist displays on the receiver's screen while the song is playing... WOW.DLNA inte...

This is the 2nd Onkyo unit I've purchased in the last few years. The 1st was the one that came with my HT-9100THX. That HTIB is a great unit with excellent 7.1 sound and plenty of input options to suit any home theater enthusiasts needs. That first receiver went bad after only 4 months in my home. I decided my first step would be to contact the online store where I purchased it(a competitor of Amazon's that actually cares about their customers). They listened to my situation and did the right th...

HDMI problems

This product may work great for others, but I had a major problem with it. I've been running a 15-20' hdmi run straight from my blu ray player to my Epson projector. When I bought the Onkyo I was looking forward to finally having hdmi switching. I bought a short hdmi cable for the blu ray to Onkyo run and then used my existing long hdmi from the Onkyo to projector. I could see the blu ray menu, stream Netflix, and even watch dvd's. But why I put in a blu ray disc, the projector went to...

I could not be happier

I was looking for a receiver to replace my dated Denon 3803. After weeks of researching forums, and reading reviews I decided on the Onkyo TX-NR709. Setup was easy and the this receiver breathed new life into my Infinity Alpha 50's and 20's. They have never sounded better. I run mu TV, DVD, DirecTV, AppleTV throu the HDMI inputs. Fewer cables are required with this setup. Calibration of the 7.1 system couldn't be easier. I did the quick setup and it sounded better that my sound meter (spl)...

Onkyo TX-NR709

For the money, very good. I have a TX-NR906 that is a few years old, and this unit does just as well for surround sound, which is all I use it for. (Of course, the 906 does have the hi-def FM tuner built in.) I hesitated purchasing the 709 thinking it would not have enough power. And I doubt it could put out rated power on all channels at the same time due to its much smaller power transformer and power supply, but that is not needed in a typical surround sound ins...

I have ordered two of these and were told to return both by customer support due to weird quirks with the networking. First off, this product has great sound quality, huge amount of features for the price and some future proofing with it's ability to upscale video to 4K. The downside is that the customer support team has little more knowledge than what can be gleaned from the manual and basic troubleshooting skills. Both units had the same issue, if I plugged in the Ethernet cable the on screen...

Not reliable

I bought this receiver along with BOSE Speakers as a Christmas gift for my husband. The look on his face when he opened the box was priceless! We connected the receiver and it was working great for the first 6 months. In June the receiver started acting up. The modes began changing on their own and we couldn't even power down the equipment. It is now on its second trip to an authorized repair shop (as recommended by Onkyo) and has been there for three weeks! This piece of equipment is...
