My Third Onkyo AV Receiver

It is hard to add anything to all the wonderful reviews on the Onkyo TX-NR818. For me in my home theater it did everything and more that I wanted. This is my 3rd Onkyo AV Receiver that I bought from Crutchfield. It's funny, but it works out that I bought one every 5 years of the same basic model but upgraded. For me, I have a Panasonic 3D projector. My older Onkyo would only pass 3D on one channel. This unit has 8 HDMI inputs and 2 HDMI outputs. Wow. No problem with all my inputs. I use...

The Journey

I originally purchased a Denon from Diymicro but it came in a seriously beat up, previously opened box. They were pawning a demo off as a new unit on me so I sent it back. I noted that Denon had gotten seriously lighter over the years and wondered about the sound quality. Low frequencies and high power equal big heavy components. I went back to researching and decided on the Onkyo. This is a heavy unit with two cooling fans internally which is very good since a common complaint over the yea...

Onkyo 818

I've had this unit for a few weeks now and haven't found any faults that are worth mentioning, with the possible exception of input choices as I have several component video units that seem to be over-ridden by the HDMI inputs that are assigned to the same input. It is entirely possible that both inputs can be used by switching between them and I just haven't taken the time to figure out how to switch them yet. I'm coming from two aged receivers (Denon AVR2500 and Yamaha 5590) and ...

Pros:-Sounds great-Easy set-up-iPhone app-Slacker, Pandora & Last.fm-Zones. You can listen to your iPod on the patio and listen/watch TV inside and listen to a 3rd in the bedroom.Cons:-Has USB in front & back - only the front can be used with your iPhone/iPod. No big deal except you have to leave the huge front cover open when you hook up your phone.-When you are listening to your music (usually loudly) if you adjust the treble or bass the volume completely shuts off with each click up or down w...

Sorry

Friends, you will forgive me. But to understand how much this receiver is inferior to the other in sound quality and equal in value, they must listen together. I did not, therefore suffered minor costs. I wish you to avoid my errors. Best Regards Andy

The Onkyo 818 is a Winner!

I am thoruoghly impressed with the 818. It has a wow factor. I bought it to replace my 808. The picture quality is superb and the sound is amazing. Although I only have a 5.1 set up, this unit was worth the investment. I have a wireless sub that works without a hiccup. The Bluetooth capability is a nice addition as well as the availability of the 8 HDMI inputs. The only drawback is that the remote is not backlit. I think that this price represents a fair price point for this receiver. I was some...

Onkyo TX-NR818

Superior receiver. Programmable inputs are nice. I have it connected to Polk Monitor Series 50, TSi200 and CS20. Great sound that will knock you out of the room if you like. Down low it is crisp and clear. Runs a little warm but that's what 135w/channel will do. It's the upgrade I've always wanted.

Great Receiver But Poor Quality Control

I ordered the Onkyo TX-NR818 from Best Buy. In two days it was at my store in Harrisburg ready for me to pick up.

TX-NR818

I bought the 818 to replace my 806 which was having the HDMI board capacitor problem. One of these days when I get time, I will try to relace the capacitors and if this fixes my 806 problems, I'll give the 806 to my son. The 818 was a piece of cake to install as the replacement. I am very pleased with the 818's performance and ease of installing. The price from Crutchfield for the TX-NR818 was also very attractive.
