Onkyo TX-SR606

Absolutely outstanding product. I usually buy Sony products and have never purchased anything from Onkyo before. Did my usual research and narrowed it down to the Sony STR-DG910 and the Onkyo TX-SR606. In the end I bought both of them and ran side-by-side comparisons. Despite being an entry-level product the Onkyo A/V Receiver packs a lot of extras and beat the Sony product in the following areas-- on-screen display of instructions, owner's manual (the Sony manual was barely a shell), cross-...

Awesome receiver

For the money you cant beat this receiver. It sounds awesome and I have not had any problems with the upconvert that others have had. my xbox and wii both look awesome. The coolest part about this receiver and the reason I purchased this over the 506 is the audio is passed through the hdmi cables and it upconverts all sources. Right now i have a blue ray player (hdmi), comcast cable/dvr box (hdmi), xbox 360 ( component), and a wii ( composite) all running to this receiver and I only ...

Sound really is the bottom line

I bought my first Onkyo receiver about 8 years ago and still have it in my basement family room. I bought the new 606 for the HD TV setup in our living room. They both sound great. The 606 has plenty of component connections, including HDMI with video AND audio play through. Be very careful of receivers in this price range. Most offer HDMI input and outputs, but most in this price range will only pass video. When adding components like blu-ray the 606 allows for both cinema quality video and ci...

Onkyo TX-SR606

This is not my first home theater receiver, although this was my first Onkyo ever. I would admit that the my Sony receivers are easier to understand, the user interface is far less clumsy and overall, I feel more comfortable with its features, and how to access them. The Onkyo was not difficult to hook-up, and a breeze to set-up with the Audessy EQ feature, it didn't get difficult until I had to find out why the receiver wouldn't decode HD audio formats. It turned out to be less of a receiver is...

Onkyo TS-SR606

This is my second Onkyo receiver--my previous was non HDMI, and even though it worked wonderfully, this receiver is actually EASIER to set up and use! One HDMI cable out to the TV, One HDMI cable in from the Blu-Ray player, and, the relatively easy hookup of seven speakers. (Hint: I used Crutchfield's great Monstercable gold-plated double banana plugs to attach to the binding posts on the rear. MUCH easier than getting those wires into the posts and tightening them down in the dark behind ...

Best HDMI receiver for the money

This is an excellent receiver. I don't know if I'll use all of the HDMI ports, but the upscaling option is great. I hook up my PS2 and Gamecube and upscale them to 1080i (my PS3 does not have backward compatibility, BTW). Love having one video cord go to the TV. I was originally going to get the 605, but when I heard about the better upscaling and more HDMI ports, I waited. Might as well future-proof for later HDMI products. The on-screen menu makes it easier to configure the setting...

Dang! Do It.

At this point, you're researching, comparing, analyzing, and overanalyzing. Your brain downright hurts. Let me ease the uncertainty and anxiety. I've traveled the road you're on, I know where it leads. Breathe slowly, and do what must be done. Buy this Onkyo. I love its quality, price, and features. It flawlessly switches between multiple HDMI inputs and provides awesome oomph to movies and music. It's a solid, well-made unit that surpasses one's expectations for the price. ...

This receiver is awesome !! I have this connected to a 42" full HD -1080P t.v., and the Sony BDP-S300 Blueray player. Great Picture, Sound. The zone 2 feature is awesome having speakers in another room. would recommend. Having four hdmi inputs is great for connecting all your components.

Sound great, video upconversion poor

I already had an Onkyo 7.1 surround sound system coupled with a 42" Panasonic plasma TV. Unfortunately, television video was limited by my analog cable and standard definition Tivo DVD. I purchased this unit for the video upconversion. I wasn't expecting miracles, just a noticable improvement. There was none, despite using optimal connections from my Tivo to the receiver (S-video) and from the receiver to my plasma (HDMI) and my spending hours tinkering with the settings. A huge disappointm...

Great sound, horrible video upconversion

Typical Onkyo quality sound. "Upconversion" from component to hdmi (which actually down converts from 1080i to 780p) is extremely buggy. The picture drops out, fades to black, sporadically.
