Great! Except for...

This is a great product however there are a few caveats that have not been revealed on this site thus far. 1) The Multi-Room functions are limited to analog sources. That is, you cannot send digital signals to "Zone 2". This was an unfortunate realization as it means I cannot send Cable, BluRay, or CD, signals around the house! That doesn't leave much. 2) The receiver generates a substantial amount of heat and the fan is quite loud. If you place the unit in a media cabinet mak...

Not perfect, but VERY GOOD for the price

I've been using the TX-SR705 for about a week now. All in all, I'm very pleased with my purchase. Onkyo's receiver lineup for 2007 is very impressive; offering HDMI switching and decoding for both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA for under $1000 (or, for the SR605, under $500) is a pretty amazing value. My previous receiver was a Denon that was only about a year old. However, it lacked support for the new HD audio codecs and only had two HDMI inputs. To get the features I wanted on a ...

I love my 705

Fantastic unit, great sound, function and build quality for a mid range receiver, I am very happy with this purchase. My HT occupies about ½ of a 16' x 24' room so is essentially a small installation where sound quality is the priority over quantity or earth shattering bass. Initially I purchased the 605 but decided to upgrade and am very pleased that I did. The 705 has, based on my initial impression, a cleaner crisper presentation. That said, the 605 was very good and the additio...

Best In Its Class

I needed something newer to go with all of my new home theater components and after much research and deliberation, I chose this Onkyo TX-SR705. Don't let the price fool you. This is a very high quality receiver. It is well made and has a ton of options that most others in this price range can only dream of having. Once I set it up and turned it on, my home theater came to life. Currently I have a Toshiba HD-A20 and Samsung BD-P1400 going to the receiver via HDMI, then passing through ...

Excellent Receiver

I was debating between the TX-SR705 and the TX-SR805 because the latter had an IEC jack for the power cable so i could use a hi end cable for power. But since Crutchfield had it on sale at the time i figured it was the much better purchase. Well all I can say is I could not have been happier. This is the cleanest surround processor I have ever owned. The music channels from my cable box (Scientific Atlanta 8300HD) alwasy sounded harsh wth my prior processor, I wrote that off to bad signal qualit...

A great choice for the A/V enthusiast

I originally set out to purchase the 605, but ended up getting upgraded after a series of events that are not worth the time to type. I am SO glad I got the upgrade. This receiver does it all. It plays great audio and video through the HDMI cables. It "upgrades" non-HDMI signals to pump them out through the one TV HDMI connection. It plays my I-Pod flawlessly through the Onkyo I-Pod dock. I didn't even have to tell the remote it was there. I was instantly controlling my I-Pod with the 705 receiv...

Excellent HDMI 1080p Receiver

After much research and deliberation, I purchased the TX-SR705 about a month ago from Crutchfield. I am very satisfied with the receiver and feel I have the best product for the money. My goal was to use all HDMI connections with 1080p connectivity and the three inputs here are perfect. Here's my review... System: TV-Sony KDS-50A2020, Satellite-DishNetwork HD-DVR, DVD-Sony DVP-NS77H upconvert (still holding out for either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray), Onkyo DSA2x IPOD Dock, Speakers-Onkyo...

Great receiver for the price

I needed to get a receiver with HDMI switching to simplify my setup, but I didn't have a huge budget. This one fit the bill perfectly. It allows me to switch the 3 HDMI sources, Component, and analog sources I have with ease. The receiver does make a switching noise and switches a little slower than I would like, but overall, this thing is great. Setup was a snap and the user interface is very easy to use. I found it to be very straight forward when assigning inputs/outputs and...

A fantastic value, but not perfect

I've had my 705 for a few weeks now, having pre-ordered it through Crutchfield back in July. Here is a quick run-down of my setup:--TV: 55" Sony KDS-55A2020 (By far and away the best purchase I made this summer) connected via HDMI to receiver--Blu-Ray / Game Console: Sony PS3 via HDMI--CD Player: Denon DCM-290 5 disc changer connected via TOSLINK cable (as well as with RCA cables for zone 2 support, which is analog only)--Satellite Receiver: DirecTV HD DVR Plus via HDMI<...

Good AV Receiver for the price

I've had my new 705 for almost a week now and it's proven to be a nice piece of equipment. The set up is easy enough, but will take some time so set aside an evening to get it hooked up and play around with it. The on screen menus are well designed and are fairly intuitive, but the automatic speaker setup (Audyssey MultEQ XT) didn't work as well as advertised, most notably with the subwoofer. It got fairly close though and I've since made a few manual adjustments. Now it sounds great and put...
