Great Bang for the Buck!

As a former Crutchfield technical support guy, I can say without a doubt that this is a great receiver. I cannot imagine that it will generate many support calls as it is very straightforward to setup and operate - JUST READ THE MANUAL. As long as all of your sources are HDMI (no upconversion, but hey at this price point, what do you expect?) it is as easy as pie. Hook 'em up, assign a couple of inputs, dial in your speakers, and rock out! If you have other sources, no problem, you'll ...

This is a nice receiver overall and a welcome replacement to my ageing Sony unit which was struggling with newer audio formats such as DTS.The design is well laid out, very intuitive and quick to power on, snappy UI etc. It is of moderate build quality - the exterior surfaces are a bit sharp, with buttons and the volume dial feeling a bit thin / light / cheap :| Not a big concern however at this price point and remember it is the lowest model in the range.I have mostly component gear (DVD and ST...

Excellent Entry-Level Receiver

I purchased this receiver to replace a 20 year old Yamaha stereo receiver which was failing and had no digital inputs or outputs. I highly recommend the Onkyo for use in an apartment or a small house (I'm in a one bedroom apartment) as it makes an excellent hub for all of your media center components and an A+B speaker setup. The Amazon price of $200 (including shipping) is an outstanding value for a receiver with so many features. Below are the features which I found most useful.* You can selec...

This Onkyo was a good choice

After looking for a week or so for a 5.1 receiver I decided on the Onkyo TX-SR309. The reviews on most Onkyo equipment I researched usually had mid to high ratings. This receiver replaced an early 90's Kenwood that still played well but the surround capabilities were out dated. I have this receiver connected to Polk theater speakers w/an 8" powered sub and it sounds incredible. The speakers are rated at 100 watts and this amp is rated at 65 watts per channel and they go together well. I haven'...

Feature packed!!

I purchased the TX-SR309 to replace an ancient JVC receiver that had been in service since 1988, so my comments should be taken in perspective since I've entered a whole new world here! It has all of the right inputs to make for a media center hub. I no longer have individual components wired to the TV - it all runs through the Onkyo. The "assign" feature is handy for digital inputs - I happened to have both a fiber optic and digital audio coaxial cable that I was able to use to patch in my DVD ...

A Sweet 5.1 Home Theater receiver

From the moment I opened the box to the completed install was less than 20 minutes. WIth an old OLIVIA HD TV 32 inches and bad speakers I wound up with a new set, all I had to do was hook up two shelf speakers I had on an old sound system and I was in seventh heaven. Saved the TV and got excellent sound quality from just two speakers. With HDMI cables the picture in HD is even better that old component cables. Way to go Onkyo.

Onkyo receivers

If this, the FOURTH Onkyo receiver I have been shipped, proves defective as well, I will change my rating of this Onkyo product to zero. The receiver that is currently installed and working in my home is the fourth Onkyo receiver I have been shipped. The first three were defective, new out-of-the-box and each with different defects. The first receiver would, alternately, go to a solid green screen, a solid blue screen, a solid black screen or produce a picture without sound, randomly and for ...

Avoid

This product has HDMI issues. All but one of my inputs has failed. I have to take it to a service center for repair. The repair shop told me that they are getting tons of business from Onkyo receivers regarding this issue and the turnaround is 4-6 weeks. Look elsewhere for another receiver.
