Just what I was looking for

I have recently gotten hooked on Pandora, and have been using an Ipod to interface to a stereo system in my downstairs study. When I decided to add a system in the bedroom, I wanted a receiver that could connect seamlessly with my existing home network for Pandora listening. Onkyo's TX-8050 seemed to be just what I was looking for, and the price was right. I was a bit concerned about connecting to the network, but it was not a problem. I did have to make a couple of calls to the Crutchfield t...

Onkyo TX-8050 AM/FM/Internet radio receiver

Hard decision on a four star vs. five star. As background, we had problems with wiring on old system. We listen primarily to college internet stations, with PC wired into receiver and house intercom. A wonderfully informed Crutchfield person recommended the wifi Onkyo TX8050. Overall, we are quite happy with our new receiver and esp. with Crutchfield. I'm now able to pick up favorite stations with a quality sound. On the downside (thus 4 star): Setup problems: ...

Just Purchased

The receiver sounds great, but the sole reason for my purchase was to use my iPad to control Pandora via the advertised WIFI connection. I guess I should have gone on the Internet and read the reviews of this function and I would have realized it doesn't function at all. What a disappointment, here I have installed a sound system in my house based on using this unit to allow me to control music wirelessly and I'm back to plugging it in. It's not Crutchfields fault, its the Onkyo application t...

A TV should not be necessary for a 2-ch recvr

This receiver is great if you plan to use the included IR remote and have a TV in the room with your 2-ch system. If you plan to use this receiver for any other setup, you will be disappointed. I got this receiver to run a set of speakers on my roof patio that is 2 floors above my living room where the speaker wires terminate. I wanted a receiver that I could turn on and off, control source and volume with an iOs app...the fact that this also has the internet/pandora features of my Grace tuner w...

I had to wait 25 days; due to backorder.

I'm SO happy I went with 2 channels instead of all this new multi-channel A/V stuff. I think; that they kind of force us into this purchase, as all these thin T.V.'s sound even thinner. The one I bought into [a Panasonic] has just the optical output so I needed a amp with that. I also bought some Bowers and Wilkins 6.5's. Streaming web radio sounds incredible.>>>DO NOT SKIMP ON SPEAKERS!... and beware of those little plastic [shipping?] covers on the ends of those pesky fiber optic patch cords.

Do not buy this unit! Mine only lasted about 26 months, then just quit working for no reason. Extremely disappointed!

The amp could be better

I bought this because it connects to the internet. This replaced Kenwood's KRV9080 (1997 0r 1998 model). The sound quality of the Kenwood is much better than this Onkyo. I am using the same speakers, which are PSB Stratus Bronze. The sound has a hollowness to my ears. Unfortunately I sold the Kenwood or I would get a network tuner to add to the Kenwood and sell the Onkyo. This Onkyo has preouts so I am using it as a tuner/preamp with a Parasound 125 w/ch power amp. This setup makes for a great s...

Ok but...

Middle of the road overall. Sound is very good. Using it to power an existing whole house audio system. I specifically ordered this based on the iPhone remote capability. The iPhone App is very poor. Limited use. Wish it was more Apple-like! Bright spot- Crutchfield service is outstanding! Ask for Lucy.

internet radio

We needed an IT guy to set it up, it wasn't easy, now only one of many nurses can figure out how to get on the internet radio. You can't sell a radio with cool features that are not user-friendly!!

Stopped Using It - Collecing Dust On My Shelf

The Onkyo TX-8050 was a waste of my money. Within a month or two of purchasing it I stopped using it. It cannot stream music at all. It will start to play a song and ½ through it will start to buffer, play a little bit more, then buffer some more. Sometimes you may get lucky and it will play 2-3 songs before it starts buffering. But don\u2019t get your hopes up. The streaming will gradually get worst and worst and eventually you will not be able to play anything and the system will lock up and y...
