I purchased the Onkyo TX-NR1009 to upgrade from an old Yamaha receiver and the sound is fabulous. I have Polk LSI speakers (15's, Center, FX and LSI 9's) and this receiver drives them extremely well. I bi-amped the main speakers and this is easy to do through the menu's. My unit did not come with a printed manual but other than that I'm very pleased with it.The sound is very clean and some of the music surround modes such as Neo:x are really excellent. I literally hear things in songs I've ne...

Ok, so I've had this unit for about 2 weeks now. I'm not going to lie. AT first I HATED it. Well, not completely at least. Let me explain myself....I've had the TX-SR608 for about 2 years now. Before that, I had numerous HTIB's for my surround sound. That was before my eyes were opened to the Audiophile realm. About 2 years ago, I decided to upgrade my receiver to a receiver with hi-def capabilities. Sound and video wise. The current Sony HTIB receiver I was using at the time had hdmi inputs, bu...

Note: I purchased this receiver from a local vendor due to its weight as it will cost me an arm and a leg to ship this to Saudi Arabia (350$) and I'll lose the warranty.I got this a month ago, and I tell you, it is a lovely new achievement from Onkyo. It will satisfy any gadget'ey, high-tech user who has a passion for high quality audio and video.- Menus/OSDMenus/OSD are better than older Onkyos... and yes, you can use your Apple iPad to 'remote control' it. There is a free app, but I purchased ...

Sounds Great!

Movies sound awsome! I set up 5.1 + Front Wides + Front Height speakers to take advantage of the Neo: X processing and it really sounds great. I love Audyssey's auto equalizer and made almost no changes after running the MultEQ XT. I purchased the usb wireless UWF1 but have not hooked up to the internet yet, hopefully this weekend! I have not done a head to head comparison of DSX vs. Neo:X yet.

I owned the precursor to the NR-1009: the NR-1008, for about 11 months before it quit working, then caught fire when I tried to reset it. They're very similar devices. I learned two things:1. When your unit quits working for no reason and then catches fire in the warranty period, Onkyo will not repair, service or replace your unit under warranty. My unit was not abused; the authorized service center claimed to have found a clump of hairs in it. The photo they sent me looked like they'd grab...

Ok, so I'm only 3 days in with this unit. So far it has positives and minuses. The good: Sounds very nice powering my Polk LSis.The not so nice: Do not be fooled by the power rating. Driving my 4 ohm Polks in a small room, the volume level hovers near 60%. I've driven the same speakers with less wattage at a considerably lower 'level'. At 60%, it's not what a reasonable person would call loud. The bad: If you think you can play music from a computer without doing it through that computer, be warne...

I am seriously thinking about this receiver not just because it has the DTS-NEO but the Dac's are far better than the 809's which has "only" the TI Burr-Brown 1690's on each channel.. The 1009 contains the TI Burr-Brown 192 kHz/24-Bit DACs (PCM1690 and PCM1789)for ALL channels..The Integra DTR-80.3 have the best on the market which is the TI Burr-Browns 192khz/32-bits on all channels , but i can live with above ...The best review on this unit that i read was in HomeTheaterMag.com ...Look above ...

I upgraded from a TX-SR805 just so I could pass 3d signals over the hdmi inputs/outputs. I used my old receiver as my zone 2 amplifier connected via rca out on the TX-NR1009.*BE ADVISED* if you want to power zone 2 speakers through this receiver you will end up sacrificing part of your 9.2 surround setup to power those zone 2 speakers. It is best to run a second receiver to power zone 2 speakers such as I did. Figured this was something worth mentioning since I did not realize it when I made ...

A nice unit for sure, worth the money. Much better bass output than my $1K Demmon. Bass, treble plus onboard EQ. Menu's R easy to figure out. Non Smug exterior, THX for movies. I think next time I save a few grand I'll upgrade to another Onkyo...
