Olympus WS-300M Digital Voice Recorder
I'm quite happy with this little recorder - and I do mean little. It's amazing how so much functionality can be included in a device this size. The sound quality is very good when recording voices. The recorder's design makes setting functions easy and intuitive. I especially like the integrated USB plug that can be used to upload the sound files to a computer. You simply separate the battery housing from remainder of the case to expose the USB plug.Even though the recorder is n...

Small Package, Big Features
First of all, this is a fine music player. The "WOW" and bass enhancements add to inherently good sound quality. There's even a 5-band equalizer. If that's your main use for the unit, though, it might be better to spend a little more money on the WS-320M with four times as much memory. Loading music into the unit couldn't be simpler. Just plug it into a USB port and copy your MP3 and WMA files to its Music folder. The tiny display shows all the song titles, so you can select what you want to hea...

little size, great performance
I use the WS-300M for research interviews. Participants in my research barely notice it is sitting between us, which allows them to feel less constrained as they talk, which used to happen in the old tape-recorder days. The microphone is very sensitive, picking up trailing-off sentences easily, yet background noises are not a problem with this little recorder. Transferring files to my laptop couldn't be easier with the built-in USB feature. My only complaint (and it is a minor one) is that there...

for musicians and mac users
I bought Olympus WS-300M 256 MB Digital Voice Recorder about 3 weeks ago to use as a compact digital recorder to record tunes played in old time and irish music jam sessions. Once I got the controls memorized, I found this recorder to be great for picking up very clear recordings. The lower sensitivity setting works just fine most of the time for close range (within 10 - 15 feet) instrument recording. I also bought an M-15 microphone but I'm not sure that it adds much, also it is mono.

Definitely DOES WORK with Macintosh
Just wanted state emphatically that this device does work on the Mac platform, and works well. Plug it into a USB port and it shows up as a drive on your desktop. The sound files it generates are indeed WMA, but they can then be converted to other formats in a snap within QuickTime, iTunes, etc. Terrific little machine for voice recordings. Stereo sound quality is fantastic, and even better with the optional ME-51S stereo extension microphone.

Great for live band recording and really easy to use
I bought this recorder for one purpose only: To record my band practicing. I wanted something with no set up time that could record loud guitar, drums, bass and vocals. I have an 8 track digital recorder but I didn't want to make a demo of every practice - just hear what we sound like week to week and catch improvised ideas that we may otherwise have lost. This little recorder does that and more. First of all the sound quality is much better than I could have hoped. If yo...

Great for Music Lessons
This works great for music lessons, the microphone picks up sounds well. The fact that you can separate it, and insert it as a USB key means that you can copy the lesson onto your computer, burn a CD of it, then listen to the lesson all week (to improve your own performance). Little, light-weight, and cool!

Very compact, lightweight, and above all, functional
Was very surprised by the size (small) of this unit. Despite its size, however, it records very well and has tremendous capacity. The size of the buttons has not been an issue with me, as some other reviewers have noted. It has a speaker, which some units do not--you definitely want this! Additionally, its files are not proprietary, so when you plug the unit into your USB port (and it effectively works just like a flash drive [in fact it can be used for that, holding other file types]), it s...

Excellent voice recorder!
I am exceedingly pleased with this Olympus digital audio recorder. The sound quality is terrific, the memory capacity is plentiful, and the ease-of-use makes my job (as a reporter) so much sweeter.I use the device exclusively as a voice recorder for my interviews. I typically attach a lavalier microphone (Audio Technica ATR-35) to isolate the speaker's voice and reduce wind/background noise. But even the built-in mike works well for my purposes. I also use the "Stereo High Quality" s...

Olympus WS-300M DVR
This is our first forey into journaling via a DVR device. After reviewing a number of recorders, this Olympus model came out on top for price, size/weight, and funtionality. It offers an easy to use menu system with all the options needed for basic or advanced recording, well placed buttons, and good display for all that's going on. All the recording modes worked well - even the lowest LP mode, although there is noticable 'static', produced acceptable reproduction. The unit picked up voice b...
