High Quality, Great optics

Wonderful pair of 8 x 42s. The low light viewing is really good and these are so much better than the majority of binoculars out there. I am using them for bird watching, a new hobby for me, and also spotting otters and whales out along the central California coast. They also are great for watching planes overhead. I am really enjoying these binoculars and everyone that tries them is impressed. I can see why this pair has such high ratings from birding organizations. I am very pleased with these...

This Nikon scores very well against tough competition

I bought a pair of the 8X42 Monarch 7's some time back and have been pleased with them.  When the opportunity (i.e. a monetary windfall) arose to get "the best" binoculars, I compared them to top-of-the-line Leica and Swarovski models.  Basic result: the Monarch 7 stands up very well indeed against both, delivering something like 90-95% of the performance (my subjective judgment) for about 20-25% of the cost.        Can you see a difference from the $2000+ "super-binocs"?  Yes. The Nikon...

Compares well to much more expensive ones

I own the Monarch 7 8X42 as well as Swarovski 8.5X42, which cost something like 5vie times as much. In most situations, it is difficult to tell the difference. If you look very hard you will note that the Monarch has a little bit more rectilinear distortion, stays sharp only about 80% of the way to the edge vs. 100%, and has somewhat less contrast when looking near a strong light. None of these differences are big, with the contrast being the most noticeable and then only when looking near the l...

OVERVIEWMost of us binocular buyers want a binocular with spectacular clarity and a wide field of view. With experience, we learn to look for many other optical traits such as close up and distance viewing, good color saturation, the absence of chromatic aberration, low light performance, easy focusing, and good eye relief if we use glasses.Along with the above, we would like a binocular to check ALL the other boxes of high quality optical performance features such as being waterproof, fog-proo...

Amazing binoculars for birding and wildlife spotting

I am a professional EcoTour Guide, so having a good pair of binoculars is important. Of course, I have to be able to afford them. I did a lot of research, and tried a lot of binoculars before choosing the Monarch 7 8X42. I have not been disappointed. The bang for the buck is insanely good. Everyone who tries them says how easy they are to use. Focus and Diopter adjustment are simple. The eyecups twist in and out easily. The image is sharp and very bright. The wide Field of View makes it much eas...

Excellent Binoculars

I've been into photography for many years and most recently I've delved into bird photography. As a compliment to this pastime, I decided a binocular purchase was in order. Like for any electronic purchase, I did extensive research and decided upon a pair that would be as high performance as possible within my budget. When it comes to optics, quality is paramount for an enjoyable experience. I've worked with less than stellar glass before and the results left me less than satisfied. I purch...

Fantastic quality

I'm no professional photographer but I wanted to get some good wildlife pictures in Yellowstone NP in September 2015. I bought a pair of Nikon Monarch 7 8X42 Binoculars, the Carson Hookupz and a Nikon BINOC-U-MOUNT to hold the binoculars steady on my tripod. Your iPhone 6 Plus can then zoom on the binocular image which makes it virtually distortion free. You'll have to fidget with it a little to get it fixed on the subject and also be sure your tripod is steady in windy conditions. For the mon...

H2O proof, eye ease

Monarch 7 is a solid and rugged binocular w/ high end adjustable eye cups, smooth & accurate center focus operation & great field of view. I also recommend it for its ability to close focus within 2.2 meters!

Extremely pleased with Nikon 8x42 Monarch 7

Before purchasing my binoculars from B&H I studied many reviews and opinions by birding enthusiasts online and also articles, evaluations, and Best Of lists by national birding organizations/publications and narrowed down my choices to the top 3 in my price range ($400-500). The 3 top choices were: Zeiss Terra ED 8x42, Vortex Optics Viper HD 8x42, and Nikon Monarch 7 8x42. I initially purchased these three binoculars from THE major national online mega-vendor thinking I would test them out an...
