Typical Nikon Quality and Performance

Needed a lightweight binocular for a field trip we have scheduled. I had already purchased an Alpen 599 but the limited field of view and my hand movement was too pronounced. Because of the size and weight I decided to keep the Alpen plus my wife can use them (she prefers the compact size). I have 2 older (over 30 years) Nikon compact binoculars and am very pleased with them. To me, Nikon binoculars (the better ones) were always too expensive to justify the cost. With the current discount the pr...

Lightweight High Quality Optics

I am an avid birder, and my primary binoculars are a pair of Zeiss 8 x 42 FL's. I purchased the Nikon Monarch 7 8 x 30's for my wife to use on an upcoming Tanzania trip. I haven't had Nikon binoculars before, but while working part-time in a sporting goods store I had the chance to examine many Monarch riflescopes, and was very impressed the optical quality, particularly at their price point. My impression was that they were as sharp as, and brighter than many scopes costing two to three times a...

New Nikon Monarch 7 8x30 is very nice!

The new Nikon Monarch 7 8x30 is very nice! I have been using mine and I am very satisfied with it. The thing is really cute kind of like the Swarovski CL and about the same size but lighter YET! It is REALLY light. It is weird how much smaller a 30mm can be. The mechanics on it all work fine including diopter, IPD tension and eyecups and typical silky smooth Nikon focus. The accessories are all great with a nice rainguard, great strap, nice little case with belt loop and good tethered objective ...

Beautiful Binoculars

Having used a Swarovski 8.5x42 EL SV, it was a great comparison with this Nikon. Image quality and brightness is outstanding. Depth of field actually better than the Swarovski's. However it's not a flat field, and that's where the big difference is. In addition eye placement is important as well. Rated 4 stars due to those reasons. Only main issue is the eye guards. They DO NOT STAY ON. Common Nikon! Really? It's a simple thing to create.

From the perspective of a Nikon photography-equipment user

This is the finest pair of binoculars that I've ever had. They're performers. They truly produce and are worth the investment. I love the ULTRA-wide angle of view as well as the excellent glass and well-thought design and craftsmanship. I use these as a means of seeking out wildlife, landscape and other types of nature-photography subject. I also use Nikon photography equipment, so I might be a little biased, since I've been a Nikon loyalist for awhile. :-) These are excellent for seeking out so...

Bright

Good clear view even at dusk, but what surprised me the most was that at dusk, they are brighter than my Swarovski EL's. Not as sharp as the Swarovskis (duh), but brighter. In sunlight, the Monarch 7 image was clear and crisp. Definitely reocmmend especially if you don't want to spend a lot.

excellent small binoculars

I bought these to replace an older pair on Monarch 7 (8x42) that I have used for birding for years. I am constant amazed at what a great pair of binos this series is at the price. A recent review of birding binoculars in various price range (available online) done by the Cornell Laboratory for Ornithology rated the Monarch 7 8x42 binos a best buy in their price range. These 8x30s aren't quite as bright maybe (and weren't available at the time of the review in 2013), but they weigh 2/3 as much...
