Spectacular

In over thirty years of using binoculars, including a number of high end ones, I can honestly say that these are the finest I've seen. Pick any feature- optical quality, ergonomics, focusing, weight, feel or quality of manufacture- this is as close to perfect a binocular as I can imagine. There's simply nothing Nikon didn't get exactly right.

Superb in every way

Anyone considering the EL Swarovision bins should test out the Nikon EDG. This is a spectacular product and clearly deserves to sit alongside the Swarovision as among the best binoculars available. The optics are just perfect with amazing sharpness, clarity, and contrast across the field. The lack of eye fatigue after several days of use is just amazing. I own the Swarovision. The Nikon keeps my eyes feeling a little bit fresher. No knock on the Swarovski EL SV which is truly spectacular in itse...

Beautiful Glass

These are awesome binoculars. The light transmission is absolutely brilliant. I would be happy to give such a superior pair of optics 5 stars execpt for a simple and aggrevating problem. The front objective covers (rubber with nice attachment design) will NOT stay closed. It is jsut amazing how Nikon could produce the best optics and goof up a simple cap design.

Superlative optics and build quality

Anyone looking at this bin is probably also cross shopping the Swarovision 8.5x42 binoculars and possibly the new Zeiss Victory SF or Leica Ultravid HD. Although the three European makers have dominated sport optics until know, you owe it to yourself to try this Japanese entry before purchasing. In this league of binoculars, you will be splitting hairs when discerning which performs optically better than another, and your decision will more likely hinge on how comfortably the binocular sits in y...

Optically excellent, ergonomically superb and with outstanding build quality.

Over the last 25 years I've owned and used a number of high end binoculars including those from Bausch & Lomb (Elite), Leica (Ultra), Nikon (Premier) and Swarovski (SLC HD).I've now had the EDG for nearly four years and I really can't find anything negative to say about them. The optics are simply superb and as good as anything I've ever looked through. Optical differences between binoculars at this level are subtle and very minor. What will separate top end binoculars today are appearance and e...

Optically awesome, but some frustrating quirks

The Nikon EDG 8x42 (new model) binoculars are marvelous optically. Viewing birds or scenery through them is a pleasure. Perhaps the brightness is not quite as high as some other premium binoculars (most notably Zeiss), but this seems to be because Nikon wanted to create a comfortable image without glare or excessive contrast. The binoculars are also a pleasure to use in most respects, as the focusing is smooth, the surface has a pleasant, gripable finish, and the binoculars fit comfortably in my...

Great optics BUT----big problems with what covers the them.

I am a birder and my binoculars are in my hands almost everyday of the year. I love everything about the EDG 8X42 ; the bright clear image, the close focus, and the center adjustment wheel. Also I can't say enough about the great customer service dept., as they have replaced my original EDG three times. The original and the three replacement pairs all developed the same problem. After about 16 to 20 months of use the outer covering begins to loosen from the barrel near the focus wheel. This flex...

These EDG's will not dissapoint

These could be the best binos I own. I have Swaros, Zeiss, Vortex...sold my Leica Geos....yes I'm an optics snob. I think the view through these surpasses my others;color, clarity are excellent....though I don't think anyone can go wrong with Swaro,Zeiss, Leica....and for the record, I've had great service from all 3 of those warranty depts....never used Nikon warranty. My Vortex Vipers are a shadow of these EDG's....though the vipers are much lighter as they are nowhere near the construction o...
