Did not perform on long cable run

This was unable to power the IR emitters on a camera at the end of a 250 foot run; ran fine in daylight but no lights at night. This was with two other outdoor cameras on 75 foot runs. Sent it back and put my older non gig POE switch in service. I don't know if the issue is power (15 watts SHOULD have done it) or the algorithm that determines power based on cable length.

Dependable

I have five of these, the oldest purchased about six years ago. Never had a problem. Just hook it up and forget about it.

Frequent power supply failure

We have eight GS108NA switches in our computer lab. One by one, the power supplies are failing. As others have reported, the first symptom is random disconnects of the computers or devices connected to the switch. The symptom becomes more frequent until the power supply just gives up the ghost. We are not going to bother with warranty repair as we have read others having little success with their replacement devices. We are researching to find non-Netgear gigabit switches as replacements. ...

the "Unmanaged plus" software is terrible

This review is for the GS116E. It is "Unmanaged Plus", which apparently means you can make a few config settings. The configuration software is terrible. There is NO WEB INTERFACE. There is only a Windows program. I can only get it to work on about 50% of the computers I install it on. And even if you can get it to run on the computer you install it on, it still requires you to be on the same network segment as the switch in order to discover the switch, and on the same IP subnet as th...

GS105E - For home network running Windows - Not for businesses)

This is in response to the NETGEAR 5-PORT (GS105E)(Edit/update (12/12/2013): Spelling errors)Does the job once it's setup. However, NETGEAR ships this switch with software that only runs on Windows and without a static IP address. The switch is shipped such that it is expecting to receive its IP from an existing DHCP server.NETGEAR ==> If you're going to sell *managed* network devices, please do not make assumptions about how or where the product is going to be us...

Great Product, Clunky Software

This switch satisfies my primary need which was a span-like port that I could connect to an IDS (intrusion detection system) to monitor all of my traffic. It's a very solidly built metal unit. I'm impressed. The only thing I don't like is that unlike any other network device I have it does not have a web interface to configure it. Rather, you must install its software to configure it, and this software is pretty clunky. No big deal, I just uninstalled it later. It would get 5 stars if not for th...

Fixed my problem with AT&T Uverse....

Absolutely fixed my problem with AT&T Uverse. Uverse was killing my home network by flooding my switches when I moved the set-top boxes around my home to new locations. I originally had the set-top boxes, except for one, plugged directly into the Residential Gateway so, while i did notice some flooding, i didn't have major problems. However, when i plugged them in to the regular Netgear Gigabit switches around my home I noticed my network was crawling when my wife was watching tv, and it was ...

Mom, a Switch is not a Router

I honestly didn't mean to buy this, because I thought I had a 5 port and was moving up, but the truth is I had an 8 port and really needed a 12 port.If you don't know what a switch is then don't bother reading further and don't buy one, you probably want a router. For the rest of us, this is well built, feels industrial and does what it is supposed to do.

Very good L3 router/switch for the price

Does L3/L2 switching, 4 gige ports, 20 faste ports, and POE.Make sure you update to the latest firmware as that really opens up some more features, like DHCP for VLANs which isn't present on the firmware it shipped with.
