High percentage of failures

We bought these for our lodge (63 2 & 3 Bdrm Units). While the combination of components in a small package is exactly what we needed, we have experienced a large amount of product failures. Out of 67 units ordered, we have experienced a 30 to 40% failure rate. Types of problems in order of occurrence:1) Audio section - a) Subwoofer worked, but not satellite speakers b) "Overload" becomes too sensitive2) Digital cable subsystem failures - a) Constantly losing the digit...

Lots of features in a small package, but ...

I bought this device mostly on the Motorola name and the incredible discount. Overall, I am happy with this device. It sounds good, looks good, and I haven't had a problem with it yet. My biggest gripe is that the front panel display is quite difficult to read from even a few feet away, especially during the day. If the display were larger and brighter I would be much happier with this device. This problem could have been mitigated with more "on-screen" info coming through the TV, but ...

good value - great sound

Not sure what all the gripe is about with this unit. I have had mine over a year and it hasn't had any of the problems others have stated (maybe I'm lucky). No sound distortion, clean crisp at high volumes (I'm using Precision Audio ceiling speakers). Good radio station pickup. Good dvd performance. I really enjoy the Dolby Prologic II- as even our ITunes files get surround sound. That said, the only issue I have had is when i turned the powerbar off while the unit was still on. When ...

Very useful product!!

This receiver did exactly what I needed it to do. It plays CD's, DVD's, and radio. The remote controls every function and I can even run my VCR, DVD player, etc... through it. It also hooks up to my surround sound system. It's a pretty big item, so you need to check the dimensions to make sure it will fit in your display cabinet. Other than that, happy shopping.

Useless paperweight

Worst audio product I've ever purchased. Can't even use the RADIO without terrible interference & static. Any audio input run through this piece of junk comes out the other side muffled & popping.Really not any value here. Motorola even replaced my item with a brand new one once....same problems. So, basically, this thing was designed by the Motorola summer interns.

Review is long but you need to read it all...important.

I have never written a review on anything before, but need to vent as well as warn as many people as I can about Motorola's products and their warranty policies and procedures. Don't buy a Motorola anything (especially this thing)please or you will run the risk of being so mad you can't see straight as I am. I got this piece of HEAVY junk and it will not work >>> none of the hook up displays function neither on the box itself or on the tv. I called their 24/7 (several times now) technical assi...

Good - All in one system

I am very pleased with this product. I like the fact that it is an all in one system (including CATV tuner). My only negative is that the unit is very large (long in length). I use it to drive an infocus IN72 projector using s-video and surround sound speakers.

Great for the price!

I picked up a refurbished unit, it was supposed to have been new with a damaged box. It had the front display panel protector peeled, and the cable box number cut and taped to the manual. This indicated to me it was a return i.e. refurb instead of new damaged box.I didn't buy through Amazon. I only paid $125 including shipping. It works great for this price, I haven't activated the cable box because analog cable works like any TV tuner would. I don't subscribe to digit...

A great deal! Works and sounds Great! Built like a tank!

This review is from: Motorola DCP501 All-In-One Home Theater Receiver (Electronics) I love this unit. It's classic Motorola. Very well built (read: big). The only complaints I have are regarding the front panel: The labels are hard to see, and the layout is quirky. It sounds great and was easy to set up. It probably was overpriced at $899, but at under $200, it's a steal.
