Nothing but great....;-}

I purchased the Marantz to replace an old Sony ES receiver. I purchased this receiver to drive My new Martin Logan Source electostats . I also us three Martin Logan Encore tf for my center and surround speakers. All these Martin Logans are 4OHM speakers. The Marantz has no problem at all delivering the goods. The Marantz SR5006 shows no sign what so ever of over heating. And we crank it. Listening to music or cranking up the Home Theater. The set up menu is great. I have no idea what more you wo...

Amazing Receiver

This is my first receiver that I have ever owned, but by far not the first I have ever used or had experience with. I know some people complain about the porthole design, but it is what it is. It is there for a minimalist design and marantz designed the receiver to function mainly through the GUI. I think this receiver is beautiful, clean, and simple looking. You aren't overwhelmed with buttons and a super huge screen detailing every single little thing in about 4 size font.The o...

a beautiful piece of hardware

This is the nicest receiver I have ever owned. I'll lead with the compliments then add some warnings at the bottom.The sound from this receiver is great and Marantz gave it elegant design, with only two knobs, one row of buttons, and a small "porthole" LCD on the front. It projects a sort of confidence, "I don't need to show off with rows of glowing controls; it's all under the hood." That said, the design entails certain compromises -- some aspects of the receiver are difficult to c...

Gets really hot on Stand By.

Bought this for my cinema surround sound set up. Look real nice, very simple control, plenty of HDMI outputs. The only thing that bother me is it gets really hot just being on stand by, not even turn on. I have to un plug the power cord just to keep it cool. Don't know if this is common or is it a problem. I used to own a Marantz receiver back in the 90's and it was really sturdy and heavy compare to this. This is very light weigh, seem cheap. Still very nice receiver only the heat thing is my m...

great sound, horrible interface

The sound is warm and reasonably detailed. I'm pleased with the sound, and though it is not as good a separates, it will not disappoint. I'm coming from an Adcom 535 stereo power amp with a high quality passive pre-amp and a discrete DAC. I needed to simplify the audio set up and converge it with the video so I choose the Marantz.So the sound quality is fine but the interface unbelievably bad. It's as though a troop of evil monkeys set out to show their spite for the human race by fo...

Good sound quality, poor GUi, really poor iphone app

Do not buy if you care about1-fast user interference (on screen menus are veeeery slow)2-fast iphone app to control it (just see sonos app if you want to see a good one)3-using it with a non hdmi tv (cust ser. said you need to get one model up if you want composite support!)If you dont care about above, then its fine/good sound quality

Good sound, terrible interface

I got a SR5006 for Christmas. So far, it works well in general. However, the interface is incredibly ugly:1. the display on the unit is small and useless, therefore, you will need to connect to TV to do anything.2. in FM radio, the receiver does not support DRS. It picks up less stations than $150 Insignia which is 10 feet away in a different room.3. in Net/USB mode, the interface only displays 480p through HDMI and Marantz support confirmed this and this is t...

Stay away!

The on screen menus are TERRIBLE. Very basic, jaggedy 1980s computer font. The setup screen does NOT look like the one pictured here. It looks like an atari game from the 80s. Vector based graphics, not that picture.The remote didnt work properly - I had to power cycle the unit to get the remote to function again, then it would stop working a short time later. Afer 3-4 attempts to do an automatic update (if the remote's 'enter' button doesnt work, how are you supposed to do the updat...
