Solid value, good mix of features

The user interface on this player is simple, but it does seem unpolished, having small text and generic icons, the sort of thing found in off-brand cheap dvd players. The smallish text may be a problem for those using a smaller hdtv or an older tube tv. Menu controls are inconsistent, requiring different button presses depending on what menu you are at. The remote sensor is very weak, requiring perfect line-of-sigth to the player, and even then , button presses may not be immediatedly responsive...

TERRIBLE!

Rather than buy this, hold the disk up to the light and watch it that way -- much more logical! The remote has more options than the IRS has forms! Why so complicated and why are basic items [play, fast forward, stop] not clear. My manual has more notes and tags on it than my college course books AND nuclear physics was easier to understand! What's great about it: ITS LIGHTER THAN A CAR What's not so great: COMPLICATED REMOTE, POOR PICTURE OPTIONS No, I would not recommend this to a fri...

Good Investment

I bought this unit to add to my Home Entertainment System and it has worked out just fine. Although I had another Blu-Ray hooked up to my other HDTV,I'm totally satisfied with this unit, and the price was right too.

What's great about it: Easy to set up, good price and same Blu-ray techology as any other brand. What's not so great: Not as pretty and slick as the other brands on the outside, but very functional design. "Bought the player looking for price and easy set up and not looking for a fancy player just a player that will get the job done. Threw everything at it and itup-converted just fine and played the blu-rays well, and the internet connection set up was a breeze....

Cheap Blue-ray player

On 10/31/2009 I bought this player while it was still on sale for $99 bucks. Thinking $99 bucks it can be that bad of a player. When I got it set up and hit eject for the first time I knew this deal was to good to be true. So I will just list of the things that a not so great about this product.

What's great about it: worked fine What's not so great: nothing "I just got a 99 dollar ethernet blu ray player with netflix streaming from best buy. i was going to buy roku and didn't because of the special price best buy had, and then they dropped their price to 80 and free shipping on the roku. anyway i'm happy with my insignia and the streaming works great with my 3 mb/sec windstream. no problems whatsoever."

Plays 1080p AVI / DIVX / H.264 /MKV !!!

This is one of the rare (and cheap) Blu-Ray players in the United States that will play 1080p AVI / DIVX / H.264 / MKV files. It initially would not play these files out of the box, but after the ethernet internet firmware upgrade it plays them just fine. I originally was going to go Samsung but then I read reviews that Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, and Toshiba would not play DIVX / AVI files at all with the USA region coding. After the easy firmware upgrade it would play those file formats o...

Now even better!

I bought this around Christmas as a 2nd Blu Ray player with Netflix. It's worked great so far. This week , a firmware upgrade appeared that added Pandaora. What a great addition and of course, it was free!

Buggy as hell

When it works, this unit is exactly as advertised. Good PQ and audio, easy netflix access, etc. But the software (and firmware?) are impossibly terrible. Routinely need to power cycle the unit. Like, if you pause a DVD or BD for more than 2 minutes, it makes enormous grinding noises during playback and stops every 30 seconds for a few seconds. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get correct Neflix playback if you have played a DVD and not removed the DVD and power cycled. It looses internet connection all the t...
