Cheap and Good - Fantastic Drive
The Hitachi/IBM brand of HDD is one of the most reliable brands of HDD out there in the market today. So far, my other computer HDDs are Western Digital and Hitachi in various sizes. For over 6 years now, the drives have not crashed at all. That's how reliable they are.As at today's date (7th Mar 2011), the Hitachi Deskstar 7k3000 64mb Cache SATA 3 7200rpm model is one of the fastest 3.5" HDD out in the market. This is due to its 64MB cache. According to other reviewers who have...

2 out of six were bad
I bought six of these 7K3000 drives. Two were bad out of the box. They had a clicking sound and wouldn't mount. This is not a good statistic. This also makes me leery about the other four that I still have.

Poor packaging
I never write reviews but I feel the need to add my 2 cents. I can't believe that Amazon went ahead and shipped two of these hard drives in a box with no packaging. What I got was two banged up drives, one rattling and the other had a really bd ding on it. I wouldn't trust using these drives for anything after being shipped like that. Who in there right ships a piece of electornics without proper packaging? adding insult to injury they are only offering replacement. I am taking my business for c...

Vendor Tried to Cheat
I had ordered the 2TB Hitachi 7200rpm SATAIII.. instead I got the Hitachi 2TB Coolspin.. which is actually significantly cheaper. Worst of all I had ordered two of them..I feel cheated with the transaction.

I had ordered the 2TB Hitachi 7200rpm SATAIII.. instead I got the Hitachi 2TB 5400 rpm Coolspin.. which is actually significantly cheaper.Amazon is taking back the item as a return, but it's delaying an urgent upgrade.

Excellent drives
I ordered six of these drives to be used with my Qnap 659 Pro II NAS. It works flawlessly and even when all the drives were building RAID 6 Parity, it was very quiet. I am very happy with the performance of these drives. They may be a little expensive, but I picked it because almost all the SMB NAS manufacturers support these drives (Cisco, Synology, Qnap, Netgear). These drives are running 24/7 in my NAS for over a month and weekly tests and diagnostics tells me they are fine.In the...

Allowed access one time and died.
I used an external connection to clone my existing drive to this. This succeeded but the drive failed when installing it and hasn't worked since.Be aware this item comes from 3CWorld who in my case shipped it from GameJava Creative. It used to be all orders were handled by Amazon. Now three parties are involved in this purchase, plus the manufacturer.Update:I want to add that 3CWorld was kind enough to replace my first failed drive with another drive despit...

Poor QC. Shame on Hitachi
I purchased 5 of these for a home server I built. 2 of them came DOA. Out of the box, brand new drives were DOA. Unacceptable, in my opinion. Fortunately, they were replaced promptly, and my server build was able to continue (a week later than I'd planned), but I went through a RMA process that I shouldn't have had to go through. I won't buy these again, even at such a great price. It's not worth the hassle.

Hitachi 1.5TB far outperforms Western Digital WD15EARS
The Hitachi 1.5TB Deskstar hard drive I purchased far outperforms my two Western Digital WD15EARS hard drives. Its speed of 7200RPM is much faster than Western Digital's unspecified rotation speed, which is claimed to be less than 7200RPM, adjusting to save power. In addition, the Hitachi burst rate is 6Gbps, double the WD's 3Gbps. Believe it or not, I have found the Hitachi to be about twice as fast as the WD, which I had to replace because boot up speed and disk accesses seemed to take about t...

Quiet & cool drive
I had a Seagate 500gb 7200rpm drive, it was almost at capacity so I decided to upgrade. My old drive would always make noise when it was accessing info and ran a little hot. This drive on the other hand is completely silent, runs cooler, and is faster according to Windows 7 32-bit benchmarking (a 5.9 score). It was the best, fastest, coolest drive that I could find at 2TB (the limit for 32 bit systems if you want your operating system on it), which is why I got it.
