Wonderful idea, but not heavy duty
Gitzo has created a wonderful tripod for use with lightweight cameras only. I purchased a quick release plate to mount on the head so I could use it with my HPX 170, which weighs approx 5lbs and this tripod and head is not sturdy enough to use outdoors with any kind of wind. A bit wobbly as a matter of fact. It has a small plastic ballhead. I'd think with the high price of this tripod, they could have made a stronger and more sturdy mount. I returned it and am buying a Miller #1514.

Excellent travel tripod!
You get what you paid for!! An excellent travel tripod that works well with my Canon 5d Mark 3 equipped with the Canon 70-200mm F2.8 lens. Nothing to complain about, very sturdy, great height and flexibility and built to outlast any harsh conditions that I'll put it through!

Very nice but...
Very nice tripod, easy to carry and perfect for what I'm doing (a lot of picture in salt water, which destroyed my previous tripod). Nevertheless, not everything is perfect. Be aware that the ball head is not quick release, which is a shame for a tripod a this price. Secondly, I can't understand how you can give a bag like that to carry the tripod. My old inexpensive vanguard tripod came with a thousand better bag. In conclusion, I'd rather prefer to have the choice to buy this tripod without

Ball Head is Dead
The legs and locks are outstanding and strong. It's the ball head. Without the much needed quick-release system the user has to loosen the ball for free rotation then rotate it into the camera's base. Not professional and time consuming even if you don't cross thread it.I now will buy a different head with a QR system.Disappointing Gitzo!This is a Non-Recommend until they redesign the head or purchase knowing you may want to change the head out. Near Perfect Travel Tripod
Yes, I do belong to the tripod of the year club and with few exception this is the best travel tripod I have ever owned. Even with a camera like the Nikon D3 and 70-200mm 2.8 lens this tripod is very sturdy. The unit is near indestructible in various outdoor environments, including salt water, sand, mud and snow.
