Despite the noteworthy number of recommendations against, I purchased this drive based on capabilities and my experience w/a non-NAS Fantom drive (which has been working well for many months). After about three weeks, the drive noise suddenly increased significantly. Several days later it went quiet, but only because the fan has completely failed. Astonishingly unreliable NAS

Six times I've been convinced it's cooked off a drive because it vanishes from the network and won't get back on. Each time it's just the NAS climbing a tree. Shares don't work. iTunes sharing doesn't work. It's a horrible print server. Tech support is completely unavailable - I once wrote them a "I can't get at my data please help...

Great Value and Features
I've had this drive for a few months. The first drive was defective but Buy.com issued an RMA and the second has been flawless. 1 TB of space is amazing and the gigabit ethernet is superfast for copying files and steaming media like movies and music to other devices on the network.

Do NOT buy this product
I'm just ordered an HP Media Vault in hopes that I can actually find a NAS solution for home that works. This thing has been a pain since day one. I own Macs and PCs and am not satisfied with the performance of this drive with either platform.

Live and learn
When I first got this unit and set it up it started to disappear from my network after 6 or 8 hours runtime. It was insanely noisy, it sounded like a coffee grinder. I figured it was a hardware defect, but I decided to check Fantom's website. I found new firmware, 2.6.2a-n, so I decided to upgrade and see if that helped.
