Excellent stereo sound quality

I was looking for a stereo (2-channel) receiver to mainly listen to classical music (CDs and an FM classical music radio channel) and to connect to my DVD player to watch old movies (Bergman's for example). I figured that multi (>2)-channel receivers would be a waste of money and thus focused on investigating reasonably good quality stereo receivers. The final comparison came down to Harman Kardon HK 3490 2 x 120W Stereo Receiver and Denon DRA-297 AM/FM Satellite-Ready Stereo Receiver. From the ...

Fantastic Receiver

I bought this receiver from Crutchfield about a month ago, along with a set of Bose Accoustimass 5 Series III speakers to go with it. The receiver sounds great right out of the box. Although I played with the tone adjustments a bit, I found it sounds best if I just leave it as is. Not much else to say as this is just a stereo receiver (no surround sound capability) but I am thoroughly pleased with it and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Great receiver...Great price!

Denon DRA-297 Stereo Audio ReceiverI have to admit that I am a female who is "electronically challenged", so choosing a receiver as a surprise gift for my husband was a bit frightening. I did some research and shopped on various websites before I found this receiver. After reading about it and the reviews, I decided to give this one a try. I had to make a few calls to the seller before I received it, made contact with no problem, and was treated respectfully. My husband was thrilled wi...

Simple made difficult

I bought this receiver to replace my old Denon amp that I had bought over 15 years ago and had recently fried for the second time pushing it just a little to hard in the 90 plus degree heat while barbecueing. The amp this was to replace was great, easy to use simple to hook up or change modes plenty of inputs lots of power. This receiver was a big let down in almost every way, they took every thing that was simple and made it difficult. To switch from cd to tuner was as easy as rotating a knob b...

Longevity????

Worked great until 2 years after purchase, then .... POW!!! No more receiver. Nice while it lasted but too expensive to buy every couple of years. My pioneer receiver is over 15 years old and still works in my den this DENON was a cool new replacement until it quit working today.

Good value

I was a little concerned about the 50W/channel rating, but I am pleasantly surprised that it drives my speakers well in my setup. Driving a pair of B25s for my home office, which is a small room. I have the bass setting at the lowest, and they sound excellent. Easy to setup, although this is very subjective. As usual, excellent and speedy Crutchfield service.

Solid, Good amp

One of the last standing, good-sounding analogue amps in this price range. I doubt you can get better sounding amp under $300. I bought this as a preamp tp drive my powered speakers in the living room. It has pre-out and works like a charm. I just wish the remote can be a little simpler and smaller. Like those true hifi component remotes, you know, just volume and source selections would be fine.

Beyond my expectations.

This is one of the best 50 watt amplifiers/receivers I have heard. It bests the Yamaha RX 397 in it's ability to play louder without any distortion. With the Denon high quaity amplifier construction, a 4 or 6 ohm speaker requires no adjustment, definitely a big plus. For both both rock and jazz the performance of this receiver was beyond my expectations. My salesperson Harley really knows the Denon equipment. I am very happy that I followed his advice.

Denon DRA-297 Buttons

The Denon DRA-297 sounds fine and works well, but the control button's labels on the front of the unit are very difficult to see, except in fairly bright light and close-up. So if you want to use a button to do something like change an FM channel, without using the remote, you need to get right up to within a few inches of the unit, and you must have a fairly strong light on it, in order to see which button to push. The button's labels are printed on the unit with a small and low-contrast type...

Great while it lasted...

I had a Denon receiver that lasted 15 years with which I was very happy. That Denon saw a lot of use. When that gave out, I bought this one. It has the same beautiful, clear sound. Then one day, after 2.5 years of minimal use, it went dead, just like that. I could not believe it. Have they hired the wrong people? They are riding on the reputation of their old products because these new ones are definitely not worth the money. If you are thinking of buying a Denon, I strongly urge you to think ag...
