AVR3806 5 star audio, 2star video, no star customer service

The fact that this thing is very difficult to figure out is very true, once set up the sound quality is really amazing. If you are getting this for HDMI switching like I did do some serious research on what it's compatible with my Comcast DVR and my MacMini will are not compatible with this thing and only sound and a flat green screen come thru. The Tweeter guys assured me that this would not be a problem as there was a hardware upgrade :( Furthermore I have been trying to reach Denon for 2 week...

Options .... you want option?

I will echo the prior review. I can be frustrating getting it setup and that is because it has So.. many options and you have to be sure that all of the settings right on each menu. The 1st time I set it up was just to be sure it all worked and took a long time. Then we remodled the room. 2nd time it tok me about 20 min. to get all of the setting done. Also there is a settings lock feature so that you can't earase them from the remote.Your patience WILL be rewarded!!

Hardest to use Receiver ever

Every positive thing people say about this unit is correct. However this is the most difficult receiver to use ever built. I'm a network engineer who loves reading operating manuals and home theater is my passion. Forget about the casual user (wife, baby sitter, etc) getting the hang of this thing. How to change an option when I'm looking right at it is a challenge. The whole interface is inconsistant. It's like each section was programmed by different engineers in different countries.

Very hard to use

Apparently great sound and an excellent picture have a steep price. And that price is frustration. This is the most difficult receiver to use ever built. Awesome receiver in all aspects

First off, this receiver has plenty of power for home theater use. Since most people into home theater have a powered subwoofer that takes care of the low frequencies (which eat power), 120 wpc is all you need, unless you have an enormous room. Highlights:1) The remote. It controls my Denon DVD-2910 handily, and even gives me sufficient control over my sat box. It is a great remote for being included with a receiver of this price.2) The HDMI connections are v1.1 compatible. This mea...

No more separates for me...

When it came time to upgrade my home theater setup, I decided to go with a Denon receiver to replace my separates system, which was a Lexicon DC-1 driving two Acurus power amps. I had tweaked and re-calibrated this setup for 9 years, but it never quite satisfied me. Certain movie soundtracks (parts of the LOTR trilogy, particularly) weren't being decoded correctly, no matter how I played with the Lex's complex settings. (My speakers weren't the problem, if that's what you're thinking) ...

Check out the Denon customer service before you buy

I bought a refurbished Denon AVR3806 from (reseller name omitted), which is a Denon authorized reseller for their B-stock products. At the time some online retailers were selling new unit at roughly the same price as the refurbished Denon on this authorized e-tailer. I chose to buy refurbished with them just for the "peace of mind" that Denon will honor 90-day warranty. The unit arrived with a totally broken front panel, 3 buttons were missing and appeared to be pushed into the unit itself. Call...

Denon AVR-3806

I made my DENON 3806 decision on Features, Power, Quality/Pricing. I wanted to go totally Digital and HD so the HDMI, Optical Audio input was most important to me since I will be driving a 1080P HD TV and 5.1 Home Theater. Im filling a 25 X 17 family room with sound so 100+ watts/channel was needed. Qaulity/price decision was based on all the reviews and comments I could surf through. DENON was more pricey than the other players (Yamaha, Harmon Kardon, Pioneer) but Im glad I spent the extra ...

Great, Great sound

I`ve changed my Yamaha RXV 650 for the Denon 3806, one of the rewards after the setting up was to see my wife surprised for the crystal sound comin` out from the jbl 7.1 speakers. Some fellows have experienced some troubles in setting up the receiver but if you have played with this kind of toys U won`t have bad times. believe me it?s superior level of extasis

Outstanding!

This receiver has amazing sound! There are nuances in music and sound tracks that I have never heard before. For music I have wanted an HDCD decoder for a long time. Now that I have it and can hear it, I wish more CDs were encoded using HDCD. And no, you don't need a special CD player. If it has a digital output (like all DVD players), it will send the HDCD data to the receiver for decoding. Video processing is also excellent. In my opinion, it ties with another brand for the best image q...
