Streamlined With Lower Price

Denon streamlined this AVR to remove component and optical output. It is intended for mostly HDMI connections as found on all newer equipment and the HDMI is bumped up to v1.4a with only one output on the unit. Thus don't expect a full-featured backpanel with all sorts of output and input. That being said, all the internals are what you need. The Audyssey setup is relatively easy and necessary to get the boom, sizzle and pop for digital audio. Once the Audyssey equalization is chosen ...

Very Good Receiver

After a long debate between several different options, I ended up going with this model. For the price it offers just about anything anyone would want from a mid range receiver. HDMI 1.4 is great and the upscaling is surprisingly better than I expected(good job anchor bay). It has all the lossless formats making the surround experience lifted. The most important thing is the sound quality, and this receiver excels at that. When I finished hooking it up I couldnt believe how good it sounded(I upg...

Great Receiver

There are three $500 receivers to consider, if you're buying one in 2010 - Onkyo TX-SR608, Pioneer VSX-1020-K and this one. All three feature the latest HDMI 1.4, which is necessary for 3D signals. Here's how they compare:-The Onkyo is the most powerful in terms of real world performance, followed by the Denon and finally the Pioneer. All three perform at par for normal listening volumes, but the Onkyo can handle very high volumes the best, while the Pioneer runs out of breath<...

Fantastic receiver

This works much better than my old Yamaha RX-V661 receiver. The key features I liked were:* Audyssey Dynamic Volume for automatically turning the volume down for commercials and up for quiet scenes so that you don't have to keep your finger on the remote when trying to keep the TV commercial volume below a certain level. This is a key selling point in my opinion! You can configure it to 4 settings depending on how dynamic you want it. Just like the Starbucks style of sizing, instead ...

Excellent audio/video performance, sub-optimal user experience

The audio and video performance of the Denon AVR-791 is exceptionally good. The amp has plenty of power, good audio processing features, a very clean sound, and a good balance of audio and video input/output formats (I really need one more component analog input, and I'd like one more S-Video input, but didn't want to spend the $$ for the upgrade to the AVR-891). There were two specific features that were a "must have" for me: upsampling of analog inputs to HDMI 1080P, and compatibility with th...

GREAT SOUND. EASY SETUP. RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE

We had originally got the AVR-591 which was just perfect, or so I thought, for what we wanted and the price was awesome! But it didn't have the dual zone we wanted for inside/outside setup. So we went with the AVR-791 which does. The only thing is that the Zone 2 on this model will not play any audio from the digital HDMI connections, which our digital cable music and Pandora use. So because of the Zone 2 limitations on the AVR-791 we really don't think it is worth the extra $150 it costs over t...

Great sound, great value, high-five Denon!

Just bought the Denon AVR 791 and I'm in love with it... Between having 4 HDMI ouputs, iPod connectivity, awesome video processing, and multi-zone capabilities, it is an incredibly powerful device considering the price point. If you have your home theater in your living room (i.e. not a separate decked-out media room), this and a great set of speakers are all you need! I've owned HKs as well and they are awesome, but they cost more and to be honest, for a non-audiophile the Denon sounds just as ...

Amazing quality at an incredible price

Wow. Denon sound quality. Discrete amps. Upscaling. 3-D ready. I'm not an employee of Denon, but this has to be the most incredible value in AVR's right now. I checked out a Yamaha with similar stats; it did not have discrete amplification. The sound quality is truly exceptional. In fact, I can't imagine anything sounding better, at least in my theater room. Seriously, you would need specialized equipment to determine any inaccuracy. I would love to have an audiophile do a blind taste...

Excellent for Secondary room HT applications

Had an Onkyo 606 in the bedroom setup but HDMI handshaking issues crept in and have continued to multiply. Sometimes took 15 minutes to engage, and that was it for me. Saw this unit at BB and ran out to pick it up. Relatively easy initial setup. Learning the tweaks has taken a while and am still playing with it. I first noticed that the highs were very harsh from this unit. After toning down the treble to as low as it will go the sound is much more pleasing and natural - no complaints whatsoever...

I Have The AVR-790

I bought the Denon AVR-790 and I have to admit, this thing is crazy!!! I pieced this entire home theater system together with my best friend who is a sales rep for Best Buy (with the wife's approval of course) with the intention of digracing movie theaters everywhere and shaking down the entire neighborhood we live in lol. This unit is running: two (2) Klipsch VF-36 tower speakers, two (2) Klipsch 5 1/4 Dual Icon Bookshel Speakers, one (1) Dual Icon 5 1/4 center channel speaker, and a ten inch (...
