Truly great sound and features.

I'll elaborate on this review as time goes on and I use the AVR more. I wanted to at least put a simple review down though, to offset the overall average rating for this receiver because of one person unfairly giving this one star.NOTE: This receiver is EXACTLY like the 791 except the 1911 adds HD radio and pre-outs for Zone-2. Everything else is the same. This receiver is an upgrade from a Sony HTIB system. In all regards it is better. Setup and all the configuration can ...

Packs a punch

I recently upgraded my home theater. I was attracted to this unit because of the sound quality and features provided at a good price. Of the other units I looked at in this price range, others had more features or connections, but the Denon had by far the best sound quality.I paired the Denon with an Energy 5.1 speaker configuration. The speaker configuration was tedious, but yielded excellent results. Movies sound awesome, and the system handles music and games very well, too. Higher sounds are...

Best Sound !

For 20 years, I have always purchased what I considered to be the best of the mid-range names in receivers (JVC, SONY, etc). Stepping into the HDMI world, I decided to explore higher quality names such as Denon. By comparison, the sound that the AVR 1911 produces is shocking...I mean jaw-dropping. The music sounds so crisp and alive. It's like fresh organic produce vs canned vegetables. The HDMI 1.4a support will allow me to upgrade to 3D devices with no problem. Denon could have improved the o...

A great AVR Reciever...really 4.5 stars

Let me first state that I am long time Denon fan who has purchased several Denon recievers over the past decade, and after owning the 1911 7.1 for several weeks I have to say this is a great AVR with a certain caveat: IMO if you are a true audiophile who appreciates music over movies than you should consider an amp/pre-amp set-up; however, this unit performs like you would expect from DENON....awesome sound and functionality. My current set-up is only a two channel set-up with two B&W...

HOLY SH-NIKES BATMAN

I FINALLY HAVE THE SURROUND SOUND THAT I USED TO CLAIM I HAD IN THE PAST. I didn't spend $10,000 on my speakers or projector - irregardless this receiver works much better, and in harmony, with my existing components compared to my old Sony STR receiver. My setup consists of: Some decent Boston Acoustics for Fronts, Center, and the Subwoofer. Two "Craigslist special" Sony's for the rear speakers. A newer Sony Blu-Ray player. An Optoma HD-20 Projector. An Elite screen ...

Great Receiver

Note - This review is for the nearly identical Denon AVR-791There are three $500 receivers to consider, if you're buying one in 2010 - Onkyo TX-SR608, Pioneer VSX-1020-K and this one. All three feature the latest HDMI 1.4, which is necessary for 3D signals. Here's how they compare:-The Onkyo is the most powerful in terms of real world performance, followed by the Denon and finally the Pioneer. All three perform at par for normal listening volumes, but the Onkyo can handle...

Denon really does it right

I have owned many receivers over many decades and the DVR-1911 may be the best sound, out of the box receiver I have ever heard. My old Harmon Kardin died and I first purchased the Denon AVR-391, but it did not do everything that I wanted to do so I returned it to BestBuy and swapped it for the 1911. The sound from the 391 is what convinced me to stay with the Denon brand and the 1911 sound is absolutely wonderful. Of course how things sound are quite subjective, but this reciever cost half of w...

Works exactly as advertised, same great Denon sound

I bought the AVR-1911 to replace an AVR-1909 because I wanted the HDMI 1.4 ports (3D capabilities). I have the following devices connected through the system:1. Directv HR-21, HDDVR (HDMI)2. Xbox 360 (HDMI)3. Sony PS3 (HDMI)4. Nintendo Wii (Component Video)5. iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.02 (front USB port)When you look at the back of this receiver you think wow, this receiver cant be as sophisticated as other receivers that have a million jacks. Thi...

Finally a Review that Focuses on Sound Quality

Lots of reviews, professional and otherwise, are simply glorified feature comparisons, gleaned from manufacturer web sites. So instead, I thought I'd focus on the most important feature -- sound quality, which seems to differ greatly among receivers.Being an "audiophile" purist, I've always been a bit hesitant to purchase a receiver. Generally speaking, the more complex and feature laden a component is, the greater the chance that sound quality will suffer. So I've remained in the st...
