Lets your AV equipment give you what they were made to give you!

I had originally purchased the Denon AVR-1709, but after finding out what the 1909 offers over the 1709, I had to make the exchange. There are 3 features that were worth the cost to me. 1. HDMI Repeating - You won't have to use a separate digital audio cable (coaxial or optical digital) to hear the audio from your digital sources through your speakers. Plus, HDMI cables support the new Loss-less audio formats. 2. Video Up-scaling - I immediately noticed a difference...

Excellent sub-$1,000 AVR

I have to say, I'm impressed. Some may claim that "Dynamic EQ" overexagerates the surround channels. It does in fact push them a little more, but I can honestly say that movie sound effects come through much better with Dynamic EQ, when playing your AVR at lower than "reference" volume. The "Dynamic Volume" helps with 2-channel commercials, which come on twice as loud as the 5.1 show you're watching. It has "day", "evening" and "midnight" modes. I thought "midnight" would keep the volume more ba...

Fantastic

I bought a Denon AVR-1909 a couple weeks ago. I love it. My wife was skeptical about the value of a home theater. After I set up a new Panasonic 46" plasma with the 1909, she's converted (and even asked why we got such a small TV). Sound is great. Upconverting is great. And some of the advanced features are even better than great. The speakers that were already installed in the ceiling when we moved in sounded a bit flat when I first hooked it up. Doing calibration with the 19...

Be Forewarned!

This is a fine sounding receiver which delivers sound as advertised. However, navigating the menu items is extremely frustrating with no help whatsoever from the owner's manual. The manual will identify certain buttons/actions but will not endeavor to describe the functionality of such items. For example, I have a 5.1 surround system with speakers connected to the B position which go to my deck. If I want to turn on the B speakers, I must navigate deep into the menu and find "Front Speakers", th...

Denon AVR-1909

Excellent Sound!!!!! Blu-Ray has never sounded so good..... Quality construction........ Easy to install and operate......If you just read the instructions--- As an individual who isn't very adept at installing electronics, I decided to download the operating manual as I waited for the unit to arrive. Received the unit and had it running within 2hours without any difficulty whatsoever... Purchase this unit, and you definitely won't be dissappointed..... <...

Unless You Love Fooling Around with Electronics - Stay Away!

I returned this receiver for the Onkyo TXSR706 and wrote a review singing its praises. The only reason I gave this Denon 2 stars was because after finally getting it to work, the sound quality was quite good and the Audyssey speaker configuration was flawless. But, I'll take the Onkyo any day over this for the simple reason of set up and menu frustration. I'm fairly savvy when it comes to A/V equipment but after 1.5 days of wrestling with this thing I threw in the towel and Crutchfield was mor...

Denon 1909

I would have given it a 5, but it is somewhat difficult to set up. The menu functions that you have to navigate to set it up did not seem very intuitive to me. I only set it up for two channel stereo, so I would assume that it would be even more difficult to manage a 7.1 setup. Otherwise, I am very pleased with the receiver. Great sound and solidly built.

Good receiver, but with video problems

The Denon AVR-1909 is a nice receiver, but with video limitations. The major problem is lack of video zoom. Several of my sources are SD, but sometimes they contain 9x16 letterboxed images. The AVR-1909 can convert these inputs to 1080p (for HDMI output), but it does not have the zoom capability. My HDTV cannot zoom on HDMI input. So with the Denon handling the video, the HDTV shows little images with black bands all around. The HDTV user manual warns that images with black bands should be ...
